Vocal recital by Vidwan Manasa Nayana at Krishna Gana Sabha on Saturday

November 19, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: Sri Krishna Gana Sabha has arranged a Karnatak Vocal Music Live as well as Online concert by Vidwan Manasa Nayana on Saturday (Nov.21) at 6 pm at Alwar Kala Bhavana in Gokulam.

The accompanying artistes are Vidushi Aditi Krishna Prakash on violin, Vidwan A. Radhesh on mridanga and Vidwan S. Manjunath on ghata.

Profile: ManasaNayana was initiated into music by Vidushi S. K. Vasumathi.  He was also trained under Vidwan Vairamangalam Lakshminarayana. But it was Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. R. K. Srikantan who was decisive in shaping his career in music.

When he took him under his wing, it was not just music that he taught him but a whole new way of life, the life of a musician. Adherence to tradition, vigorous presentation, clear diction and a rich repertoire of kritis are the hallmarks of Srikantanbani.

Currently, he is learning from Sangeetha Kalanidhi R. Vedavalli, another musician who stands for the very best of the values in Karnatak music. Apart from formal training, he also had the good fortune of learning from some of the leading exponents and acclaimed gurus of Karnatak music in workshops — Lalgudi G. Jayaraman, Madurai T.N. Seshagopalan, Chitravina N. Ravikiran, P.S. Narayanaswamy, J. Ven-kataraman, Pushpa Srinivasan, NagamaniSrinath, Dr.SukanyaPrabhakar and Dr. R. N. Srilatha, to name a few.
