Mysore/Mysuru: Renowned vocalist T.M. Krishna unveiled his latest literary work, “We, The People of India: Decoding a Nation’s Symbols”  at Jagannatha Centre for Art and Culture (JCAC) in the city recently.

The event drew a diverse audience of art enthusiasts, students and citizens.

The highlight of the evening was a conversation between Krishna and noted novelist Mahesh Rao. Together, they navigated the complex themes presented in the book, which examines the history and current resonance of India’s most recognisable symbols — from the National Anthem to the National Flag. During the discussion, Krishna challenged the audience to look beyond blind reverence.

He encouraged a more nuanced, democratic understanding of these icons, urging readers to recognise the power dynamics and evolving meanings inherent in the symbols that define modern India.

Following the discussion, the floor was opened for Q&A session. The questions were regarding the intersection of art, activism and the current state of national discourse, to which Krishna responded with his characteristic analytical depth.
