Mysuru: Vasundhara Performing Arts Centre  (VPAC), one of the prestigious Bharatanatyam training institutes in Mysuru, is celebrating its  31st year annual festival of  Indian Classical Music and Dance — Pallavotsava-2017 — for five days from Oct. 6 to 10 at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road in city from 6 pm to 9 pm.

On Oct. 6 at 5.30, the Joint Director of Rangayana V.N. Mallikarjuna Swamy will inaugurate the festival. Rtn. Rajeshekar Kadamba will  be the chief guest. VPAC President K.V. Murthy will preside. Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy will be present.

Following the inaugural, senior disciples of Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy will be presenting Bharatanatyam recital in Vasundhara Bani — ‘Sanmarga.’ Choreography and direction by Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy.

On Oct. 7, Mandolin recital by Vishnu Venkatesh from Bengaluru at 6 pm. Vishnu Venkatesh, a Karnatak Classical Mandolin artiste, is a disciple of Padma Shri Mandolin U. Srinivas trained  for nearly 10 years and has been performing in many Sabhas and temples.

Odissi by Vidu. Sriradha Paul from Kolkata at 6.45 pm. She has been learning Odissi from past 20 years under the guidance of Guru Bichitrananda Swain and also from Guru Paushali Mukherjee and Lingaraj Pradhan. She is the recipient of junior and senior scholarship from Ministry of Culture, Delhi.

Kuchupudi Duet by Priyanka Ramachandraiah and Meghana Chandramouly at 7.30 pm. Priyanka has taken five years of intense training under Guru Archana Punyesh. She has obtained certificates from KSEEB for Junior and Senior grade in Kuchipudi. Meghana will share the stage with Priyanka presenting Kuchupudi Duet.

On Oct. 8, Pakhawaj by Roman Das at 6 pm. He is a fortunate disciple of the most finest musician and Pakhawaj artiste, the Maestro, Guru Pandit Akhilesh Gundecha, under Guru-Shishya Tradition. At the same time, he has been learning Dhrupad Vocal from Padma Shri Gundecha Brothers. That’s how he brings out the soulful melody through his Pakhawaj stroke. He has learnt Khayal Vocal of Kirana Gharana and tabla of Farukhabaad and Banaras Gharana. He is a much sought-after accompanist for the most eminent exponents of dhrupad, vocal and instrumental Indian Classical Music.

Bharatanatyam by Vidu. Premitha Ramesh of Mysuru at 6.45 pm. She is training in Bharatanatyam and yoga for the past 17 years under internationally-renowned Guru Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy. Premitha is a graded artiste of Doordarshan. She has completed her Rangapravesha in 2012.

She has performed at various prestigious festivals in India and abroad as a solo artiste and along with her Guru.

Odissi by Sanjeev Kumar Jena from Odisha at 7.30 pm. He  pursued B.Mus at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya and continuing his Post Graduation at Utkal University of Culture. He is having dance guidance under Guru Nabakishore Mishra, Guru Manoranjan Pradhan and Guru Pankaj Kumar Pradhan.

He is also taking dance training under the guidance of Guru Bichitrananda Swain and Guru Lingaraj Pradhan. He has been awarded with Odissi Shree Award, Naveen Kalakar and Sadhna Puraskar.

On Oct. 9, Tabla solo by Kiran Yavagal from Bengaluru at 6 pm. Kiran, a ‘B-High’ grade artiste of AIR, is the son and disciple of Tabla Maestro Pt. Ravindhra Yavagal.

He started his training at the age of 4 and later went to learn under late Sheshagiri Hanagal and is presently training under Pt. Yogesh Samsi.

Mohiniyattam by Dr. Rachitha Ravi, Thrissur, Kerala, at 6.45 pm. She is a performer in Mohiniyattam and course co-ordinator in PG section at Kerala Kalamandalam, deemed to be University for Arts and Culture, Thrissur, Kerala, with more than 15 years rich experience in the field of Mohiniyattam as Performer and Choreographer.

She is a disciple of Mohiniyattam exponent Prof. Kala Leelamma. A ‘B’ grade artiste in Doordarshan, she is a recipient of Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by the Central Sangeetha Nataka Academy.

Bharatanatyam by Kshitija Kasaravalli from Bengaluru at 7.30 pm. An Artistic Director of Nritya Kshithi School of Dance, she is a graded artiste of Doordarshan and has given more than 300 performances across the country. She has been awarded with Pratibha Puraskar, Natya Tarang, Nata Choodamani and Kala Jyoti title.

On Oct. 10, Kuchupudi Duet by SVKVP Deekshitulu and T.B. Sahithi Mannar from Hyderabad at 6 pm. Kathak dance by  Akhila S. Nair, Mumbai, at 6.45 pm. A disciple of Guru Pandita Uma Dogra on Padhant, Akhila has performed for many a festivals across the globe for more than five years.

Bharatanatyam by Vidu. Harshini Purushotham, T.N. Pura, at 7.30 pm. Disciple of  Vid. K. Sandesh Bhargav of Kala Sandesha Pratishtana, in Vasundhara Style of Bharatanatyam, she has matriculated from KSEEB Government of Karnataka with Vidwat grade. She holds great admiration towards Indian Classical Music and henceforth is serving as a Managing Trustee of ‘Swarashraya Gana Sabha.’ Harshini is an Environmental Engineer and is currently working for Tata Consultancy Services at Bengaluru.
