Mysuru: He is on a mission to address the woes of the farmers who have been committing suicide owing to drought and debt. But, he is not an Indian.

He is a British and his name is  David Atthowe, who has been travelling across India to learn more about the problems faced by Indian farmers.

Travelling, would normally mean, a person using some vehicle or aircraft as his mode of transport. But, David has been walking all through, along with his two friends- Jasvir Singh and Bahadur Singh, both from Patiala in Punjab.David, who will be walking around 6,000 kms, started his journey from Kanyakumari, the southern tip of India, on July 15 and expects to complete the mission during May 2018.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, David said that the ‘Walk of Joy’ was taken up to promote walking for happiness, promote organic farming and also to raise funds for the welfare of deceased farmers’ family.

David is also the founder of an Indonesia-based NGO Nomadic Lion, which has completed three walks covering a distance of 3,650 kms in Malaysia, Brunei and United Kingdom.

During his two-day stay in Mysuru, David will visit Amurtha Bhoomi, a seed conservation facility run by Sahaja Samrudha, Organic Cotton Farming at H.D. Kote and Seed Bank belonging to Syed Ghani Khan at Kirugavalu.

The trio will leave for Mandya on Aug. 16, following which they will be travelling to Bengaluru.
