Kadakola water contamination: 100 take ill

Mysore/Mysuru: Alarmed by the incident in which over 100 people fell ill after consuming contaminated water from an open well at Kadakola in the Taluk, the Mysuru Taluk Panchayat will take up cleaning of all water tanks in the Taluk from Feb.1.

Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer (EO) C. R. Krishnakumar directed  all Gram Panchayats in the Taluk to undertake cleaning of water tanks from Feb.1 to 10 at the TP KDP meeting held at Mini Vidhana Soudha here recently.

Pointing out that there are 37 Gram Panchayats in the Taluk covering 186 villages, Krishnakumar said that the PDOs of all the Gram Panchayats have been asked to undertake a 10-day water tank cleaning drive from Feb.1st to 10th and thereafter submit a report to the TP.

Maintaining that Kadakola Gram Panchayat had erred in supplying pure drinking water to villagers, which resulted in over a hundred of them falling ill due to consumption of contaminated water drawn from an open well,he said that cleaning of water tanks will be taken up on priority in the future too, to ensure that the Kadakola incident does not recur anywhere else.

Health Education Officer Munindramma said that three doctors and nurses are camping at Kadakola to take care of those fallen ill.

A team of health workers is visiting every home in the village to ensure safety, she said and added that barring isolated incidents of diarrhoea, there are no reports on any major health issues in the village.
