Wheel Lock: Vehicle owners express anger over Traffic Police

July 24, 2019

Mysuru: Vehicle owners, who had parked their two-wheelers in the ‘No Parking’ zone have expressed their anger on Traffic Police for locking the wheels of the two-wheelers and also staged a protest yesterday evening.

Traffic ASI Siddegowda and staff, attached to K.R. Traffic Police, who were on their regular beat on Gurukar Devanna Street in Agrahara saw three bikes parked in ‘No Parking’ zone and locked the wheels of the bikes.

Meanwhile, members of the public, who saw the Cops locking the wheels of the bikes, questioned them as to why they had only locked the wheels of the bikes and not the wheels of four goods vehicles which were also parked in ‘No Parking’ zone at the same spot. Following this, the Traffic Cops locked the wheels of the four goods vehicles also and imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 each on all the vehicles.

Irked over the imposition of huge fines, the vehicle owners requested the Police not to impose hefty fines as they were poor and dragged the locked vehicles to the middle of the road and staged a protest resulting in disruption of traffic for some time.

ASI Siddegowda then called Inspector R. Jagadish over the phone and informed the matter. The Inspector, who rushed to the spot, told the vehicle owners that the fine amount was imposed by the Government and the Police were just following the order besides asking the vehicle owners to co-operate.

Later, the Police collected the fines and removed the wheel locks.
