Wildlife Week at Zoo

October 5, 2024

Evening walk at Karanji Lake Nature Park today at 7 pm

Mysuru: A variety of events have begun at the century-old Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as Mysuru Zoo, as part of the 70th Wildlife Week celebrations. These activities aim to educate the public and raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation.

One of the key attractions is a unique wildlife photo exhibition, showcasing rare moments from the lives of wild animals. The exhibition captures their expressions, movements   and life struggles in a way not often seen.

Visitors can admire stunning photographs of animals clicked inside the Zoo like tigers, elephants, deer, leopards, lions, wild dogs, jackals, bears, rhinos, and bison. In addition, beautiful images of birds, including a mother bird feeding her chick, and various insects highlighting biodiversity, are also on display. This expo is open until Oct. 8, from 10 am to 5.30 pm.

The photo exhibition was inaugurated by City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar on Wednesday, who also took time to view the photographs alongside other officials.

Cyclothon for wildlife awareness

In addition to the exhibition, a cyclothon was organised to promote awareness of wildlife conservation. City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar flagged off the rally near the Zoo entrance on M.G. Road.

Participants included students, Forest Department officials, and volunteers, who cycled through key locations like Race Course Circle, Agrahara Circle, K.R. Circle and Hardinge Circle, before culminating at the Zoo.

Lalithadripura Lake clean-up drive

As part of the celebrations, a clean-up drive was also held at Lalithadripura Lake. Led by Zoo Executive Director D. Mahesh Kumar, the drive saw over 100 participants, including students, Forest Department officials, Zoo staff, and volunteers, actively working to clean the lake area.
