Woman abandons infant on footpath

Mysore/Mysuru: A mentally challenged woman has disappeared after abandoning her nine-month-old infant on the footpath near Sewage Farm in Vidyaranyapuram last morning.

Public who saw the infant lying on the footpath informed the Police, who rushed to the spot, rescued the infant and admitted the baby to Sakhi Centre at Cheluvamba Hospital.

District Child Protection Officer S. Diwakar, speaking to SOM said that a mentally challenged woman along with two men claiming to be the woman’s husband and father-in-law had come to claim the baby, but further action would be taken after examining the documents, Diwakar added.
