Woman commits suicide over alleged dowry harassment

February 28, 2019

Mysuru: A woman has reportedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze following alleged dowry harassment by her husband and mother-in-law at Udbur in the taluk on Tuesday night.

The deceased is Bhagya (26), wife of Suresh of Udbur. Bhagya was given in marriage to Suresh about five years ago and the couple has a son and a daughter.

Alleging that Bhagya has been murdered, her parents, who have lodged a complaint at Jayapura Police Station, have stated that Bhagya was set on fire by her husband Suresh and his mother Marichikkamma for dowry. Jayapura Police, who have registered a case in this regard, shifted the body of Bhagya to MMC&RI mortuary, where post-mortem was conducted and the body was later handed over to the family members.
