Woman hacked to death for throwing rotten tomatoes on roadside

Mysore/Mysuru: A 32-year-old woman was allegedly hacked to death, while her mother sustained serious injuries when she was attacked with a machete for reportedly throwing rotten tomatoes on the roadside. The incident took place at K.N. Pura Layout in Kyathamaranahalli yesterday evening.

While the deceased has been identified as Sunitha, wife of Vijaykumar, a resident of Vinayaka Road in the locality, the deceased woman’s mother Bharati has sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to a private hospital in city.

The accused has been identified as Girish, neighbour of Sunitha. His father Shivaraj is said to have provoked Girish and the father-son duo have gone absconding after committing the crime.

Yesterday at about 4 pm, Sunitha and her mother Bharati, who run a shop in their house, threw rotten tomatoes that were in the shop on the roadside. Shivaraj and Girish, who noticed Sunitha and her mother throwing rotten tomatoes, questioned them as to why they threw the rotten fruits in front of their house. Soon, wordy duel ensued between them and an enraged Girish picked up a machete (long) and attacked Sunitha and Bharati. Sunitha, who sustained serious injuries on her head, is said to have died on the spot and Bharati, who suffered severe injuries, was rushed to a private hospital. Udayagiri Inspector P.K. Raju and staff, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar, shifted the body of Sunitha to MMC&RI mortuary and has registered a case. DCP (Law and order) Pradeep Gunti and N.R. Sub-Division ACP Shivashankar also visited the spot. Udayagiri Police have launched a hut to nab the absconding father and son.
