Call for Mysuru bandh on Feb. 7 seeking sacking of Judge

Mysore/Mysuru: Accusing Raichur Principal District and Sessions Court Judge Mallikarjunagowda of removing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s portrait during Republic Day celebration thus showing disrespect to the Father of the Constitution, Gandhinagar Dalit organisations and Progressive Thinkers’ Federation, urging for sacking of the Judge, staged a massive protest in city yesterday.

Meanwhile, leaders of various organisations under the banner of SamvidhanaSamrakshanaSamithi, who held a meeting at Jaladarshini Guest House on Hunsur Road here yesterday, have called for Mysuru Bandh on Feb. 7, demanding sacking of the Judge.

The members of various Dalit organisations, who took out a massive protest march from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Circle to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), shouted slogans against the Judge by holding brooms in their hands, thus expressing their anger. The protesters passed through Pulikeshi Road, Ashoka Road, Clock Tower near Town Hall, DevarajUrs Road, JLB Road, Metropole Hotel Circle and Hunsur Road before reaching the DC Office, where they staged a protest. They warned of intensifying the protest if action was not taken against the Judge.

A memorandum was submitted to Tahsildar Shivaprasad at the DC Office. Sri UrilingaPeddi Mutt Seer Sri JnanaprakashSwamiji said that if the Government does not take action against the Judge, a massive protest will be held in front of the High Court and VidhanaSoudha in Bengaluru. CorporatorsDr. Ashwini and Pallavi Begum, former CorporatorsUday and Siddappa, leaders Kallahalli Kumar, Puneet, SDPI leaders and others took part in the protest.

Meanwhile, at the meeting by SamvidhanaSamrakshanaSamithi, it was decided to call for Mysuru Bandh on Feb. 7.

They said that though eight days have passed since the incident took place, the Government had not taken any action against the Judge and accused the Government of showing disrespect to Dr.Ambedkar for not taking any action.

State Backward Classes JagruthaVedike State President K.S. Shivaram said that to condemn the Government for failing to take action against the Judge and removal of the Judge from service, Mysuru Bandh has been called on Feb. 7.

Samvidhana Rakshana Samithi President N. Bhaskar, Mysuru District Congress President Dr. B.J. Vijaykumar, NayakaraHitarakshanaVedike State President DyavappaNayaka, District SavithaSamaja President N.R. Nagesh, retired Professor Mahesh, NeleHinnele’s K.R. Gopalakrishna, Dalit Welfare Trust President Shantharaju, City Congress President R. Murthy and others took part in the meeting.
