Woman on the run arrested for husband’s murder

November 19, 2017

Mysuru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) Police have arrested a woman who is accused of being the chief conspirator in her husband’s murder. The woman, identified as Radha, along with her accomplices, had smothered her husband Krishna, Proprietor of Chanakya School at Dattagalli in city.

Radha was arrested yesterday and today she will be produced before a Magistrate and the CCB team will seek four-day custody for interrogation. The Police have already arrested Manjunath and Manju and have taken them into their custody. Their custody period will end tomorrow and the Police will again produce them before a Court.

Sources said that Radha was on the run ever since the murder came to light in the last week of October. The first arrest was made on Nov. 8 when the Police rounded off Manjunath. The second arrest was made on Nov. 13. Radha was arrested by the team headed by Inspector Krishnappa based on her call details and Police sources said that she was hiding in a paying guest accommodation.

The murder took place a year back and the killers had smothered “school” Krishna to death on his own bed using a pillow. His wife Radha claimed that her husband died of heart attack. Believing her version, the relatives and the perpetrators of the crime cremated the body in a hurry.

The sordid tale of murder was revealed when, in a drunken stupor at a bar in Kuvempunagar, one of the accused bragged about the crime and how they managed to hoodwink the Police. Their conversation was overheard by one person sitting near their table who happened to be Krishna’s relative.

Next day, he confronted Krishna’s wife who feigned ignorance and denied that her husband was murdered. Unconvinced by her replies and evasive answers, the family members approached Kuvempunagar Police Station and filed a written complaint. The City  Police Commissioner later handed over the case to CCB.

Investigating the case, CCB ACP Gopal and Inspector Jagadeesh rounded off one Manjunath on Nov. 8 and grilled him. Manjunath narrated how Krishna was fast asleep and how they, with the active involvement and directions from his wife, used a pillow to suffocate him to death on his own bed and made it a case of massive heart attack.

He also told the CCB sleuths how they destroyed evidence and managed to convince the family members to cremate the body, before anyone grew suspicious. Manjunath said that he used to supply drinking water to Krishna’s school and gradually he came in contact with Krishna’s wife. After some close encounters, Manjunath and Krishna’s wife decided to eliminate Krishna and executed their plan accordingly.
