‘Women should emulate Mother Teresa and Savithri Bai Phule’

Mysuru: Savithri Bai Phule Jayanthotsava was organised by the Youth Wing of Mysuru Rakshana Vedike at Mahila Sadana School in Devaraja Mohalla here yesterday.

Speaking on the occasion,  former MLA Vasu opined that women should take great personalities like Mother Teresa and Savithri Bai Phule as their role models for achievement. He recalled that Savithri Bai Phule had created a revolution in 18th century itself stressing the importance of education for women. He said that Savithri was able to voice her opinion in a male dominated society. He asked girls to get well-educated to carve a niche for themselves in career and society.

A fancy dress competition was organised for the students. Mysuru Rakshana Vedike Secretary Rakesh Bhat, Youth Wing President Gururaj Shetty, Nataraj Jois and others were present.

Karnataka State Dalita Sangharsha Samiti: Mysuru District in-Charge Minister V. Somanna flagged off the awareness meet organised by district unit of Karnataka State Dalita Sangharsha Samiti near the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, opposite Town Hall yesterday. 

The awareness meet was held as part of Savithri Bai Phule Jayanti celebrations.

Speaking after garlanding the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the portrait of Savithri Bai Phule, Somanna highlighted the importance of education among poor people who are deprived of education and contributions of social reformer Savithri Bai Phule to women empowerment. 

Singer Sheshanna rendered songs on Dr. Ambedkar on the occasion. MP Pratap Simha, district Dalita Sangharsha Samiti Convener Ningaraj Malladi, H.B. Diwakar, K. Nanjappa Basavanagudi, Krishna, Devendra, K.M. Vadi and others were present.

Sri Nataraja Residential First Grade College for Women: As part of Savithri Bai Phule Jayanti celebrations, Sri Nataraja Residential First Grade College for Women, in association with Political Science Department of Sri Nataraja PU College for Women had organised a programme yesterday at the college premises. A seminar was also held on the occasion and students participated in the seminar.

Principal of Sri Nataraja PU College for Women V. Pradeep,  who was the Chief Guest, paid tribute to Savithri Bai Phule on her birth anniversary and hailed her as a pioneer in women’s education.

Principal of Sri Nataraja Residential First Grade College for Women M. Sharada presided over the event. Head of Political Science Department H.A. Poornima, Assistant Professor B. Ragini and students of PU and First Grade College were present.
