‘My Handloom, My Pride’ expo at JSS Urban Haat

Mysore/Mysuru: Handloom is a symbol of our country’s rich and diverse cultural heritage and handloom weaving has a traditional value to it; each region has exquisite varieties, exclusive weaves, designs and traditional motifs that draw customers from all over the world.

A special handloom and handicrafts exhibition is underway at JSS Mysore Urban Haat situated on the Ring Road in Hebbal Industrial Area in the city under the theme ‘My Handloom, My Pride’ (‘Nanna Kaimagga, Nanna Hemme’).

Apart from weavers and artisans from different parts of the country who are displaying their products at the exhibition, it is facilitating direct interaction between awardee handloom weavers and consumers. The mega show which began on Dec. 8 will conclude on Dec. 25 and is open every day from 10 am to 9 pm.

The expo has been organised under the sponsorship of the Textile Development Commissioner (Handloom), New Delhi, in collaboration with the Ministry of Textiles, Government of Karnataka, Department of Handloom and Textile, Bengaluru and Karnataka State Cooperative Handloom Weavers Federation.

The event honours the handloom weaving community and highlights the contribution of this sector in the socio-economic development of this country. It is a reaffirmation of the resolve to protect India’s handloom heritage and to empower the handloom weavers and workers with greater opportunities. The art of handloom weaving has traditional value attached to it and each region has exquisite varieties. The uniqueness of products attracts customers across the globe with exclusive weaves, designs and traditional motifs.

75 stalls promises variety

At the exhibition, artisans and handloom weavers representing all Indian States are displaying and selling their products. A unique opportunity has been created to see the regional products in one place and under one roof. One can get the best quality products at low prices.

The exhibition has over 75 stalls from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and each stall has unique products.

Weavers and Weavers Cooperative Societies of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Sikkim, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Ramanagara, Bangalore City, Bangalore Rural, Tumakuru, Shivamogga, Chitradurga, Gadag, Bagalkot, Kalaburagi, Ilkal region, cotton and wool produced in Cooperative Societies and handloom products made from various blended yarns are available at a discount of 20 percent.

A collection of unique products

A host of products prepared for winter are up for grabs along with a collection of dresses that can be worn for celebratory events. There is also a vast collection of silk sarees and cotton fabrics, Molakalmuru saree, Ilkal saree, embroidery saree, Kanjeevaram saree from Tamil Nadu, Tussar saree from Bihar, Kanta saree, Baluchari saree, Boutique saree, Bengali cotton saree from West Bengal, Banarasi saree from Uttar Pradesh, embroidery saree, Chanderi saree from Madhya Pradesh, Maheshwari saree, Odisha Sambalpuri saree, Ikkat, Bomkai saree, Pashmina shawl from Kashmir, silk saree from Andhra Pradesh, Kalamkari saree, Pochampally sarees and Madurai tie and dye, Patola silk sarees from Gujarat, dress materials, embroidered fabrics, towels, bedspreads and blankets, floor mats are on display.
