Youth arrested for stealing gold ornaments

June 12, 2019

He was stealing from a single jewellery store frequently

Mysuru: Hunsur Police have arrested a 22-year-old youth on charges of stealing gold ornaments from a single shop frequently in the guise of a customer and have recovered three gold pendants and two gold finger rings from him.

The arrested youth is Siddaraju, a resident of Dodda Hejjuru village in Hunsur taluk.

On June 6 at about 2.30 pm, accused Siddaraju, who went to Payal Jewellery Store on JLB Road in Hunsur in the guise of a customer, diverted the attention of the staff attending to him and stole three gold pendants. The incident had not come to the notice of the owner nor the staff.

On June 8, Siddaraju went to the same jewellery store again and told the attendant that he did not want the gold pendants and asked him to show a few finger rings. When the attendant was showing the finger rings, a few customers came to the jewellery store and when the staff turned to look at the customers, Siddaraju stole two finger rings and left the shop. Suspecting something fishy, the owner inspected the box containing finger rings and found two rings missing.

Again on June 10 at about 3.30 pm, Siddaraju came to the same jewellery store in a brand new Yamaha bike and when the jewellery store owner Mukesh tried to catch him, he managed to escape and began to run. Mukesh immediately called the Police over the phone and Head Constable Jagadish and staff Ravi, who rushed to the spot immediately, began to chase the accused and succeeded in catching him at Lakshmi Vilas Circle.

Hunsur Sub-Inspector J.E. Mahesh, who has registered a case, interrogated the accused and recovered the gold pendants and gold finger rings from him.

He was produced before a Magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody.
