Youth Congress to host State-level Football Tourney in city from Apr. 8 to 10

Mysuru, Apr. 4 (MTY&TRR)- Mysuru District Youth Congress is organising a three-day State-level Football Tournament from Apr. 8 at J.P. Nagar Railway Grounds in city.

Speaking after a meeting of Youth Congress Committee workers at the Congress Bhavan here recently, District Youth Congress President Donald F. Nirmanik said the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Cup’ tournament will be inaugurated on Apr. 8 by National Youth Congress President B.V. Srinivas in the presence of many leaders including KPCC Working President R. Dhruvanarayan and State Youth Congress President Mohammed Nalpad.

About 25 men’s team and 10 women’s teams have already registered to participate in the tournament. Players from all the districts of Karnataka are expected to take part, he said.

At the concluding ceremony to be held on Apr. 10, Leader of the Opposition Siddharamaiah will distribute prizes to the winners.

MLA  N.A. Haris and all District legislators, ex-MLAs and Youth Congress office-bearers will participate in the function.

While the men’s winning team will get a cash prize of Rs.50,000 and runner-up gets Rs.30,000  the winning women’s team gets Rs.20,000 cash prize and the runner-up team gets Rs.15,000, he said.

On the occasion, District Congress President Dr. B.J. Vijayakumar released the posters of the tournament and said, “National Youth Congress, which was formed in 1970, has done significant work towards equal education, brotherhood and also serving people during natural calamities. It has achieved global recognition for its service.”

Congress General Secretary M. Shivanna, Zilla Panchayat ex-President B.M. Ramu, District Congress Vice-President Hinkal Manjunath and others were present on the occasion.
