Youth drowns in Hemavathi Canal

Pandavapura: A 20-year-old youth, who had gone for a swim, drowned in Hemavathi Canal at Hosahalli village near Melukote in the taluk yesterday.

The deceased is Shashank Gowda, son of Krishnegowda. Krishnegowda is serving as a Head Constable in Pandavapura Police Station. Shashank, who had been to the family’s farm land at Uligere near Melukote along with his friends, went for a swim along with his friends in the canal. As Shashank did not know swimming, he was caught in the strong water force and was swept away and drowned.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel, who rushed to the spot, conducted a search and fished out the body later. 

Melukote Police, who conducted mahazar, shifted the body to the Taluk Hospital, where post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family members. 

Melukote Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
