Youth drowns in Hogenakkal Falls while clicking selfies

Hanur: A 20-year-old youth was drowned after he slipped and fell into Hogenakkal Falls in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu border on Thursday.

The deceased is Umashankar, a nursing student and a resident of Nanjangud, who had come along with his friends on a picnic. He was clicking selfies, when he slipped and fell into the falls.

Male Mahadeshwara Hills (MM Hills) Police Inspector Basavaraju and staff, who rushed to the spot, inspected the place and summoned expert divers and swimmers from Gopinatham to trace and fish out the body.

“The youth’s body was traced about 50 metres from the spot on Friday,” confirmed Inspector Basavaraju.
