Youth killed as lightning strikes

Mandya: A youth was killed on the spot while his father and brother sustained severe injuries, when lightning struck them at Tigalanahalli village in Nagamangala taluk coming under Bellur Police limits yesterday evening.

While the deceased has been identified as Pratap (27), the injured are 51-year-old Puttananjegowda and 24-year-old Prashanth. Two goats have also died due to the lightning.

Yesterday evening, Puttananjegowda along with his two sons had been to their agricultural field and as rain began to pour at about 5 am, they had taken shelter under a Banyan Tree during which the lightning struck the tree killing Pratap and the two goats on the spot.

Others, who were working in nearby fields rushed to the spot, informed the villagers and also to Bellur Police, who visited the spot, conducted mahazar and shifted the injured to a hospital besides shifting the dead to the mortuary. Bellur Police have registered a case.
