Youth murdered in broad daylight in city

Mysore: A fight for petty reasons in the morning has resulted in the murder of a youth by a group of youths at Gowrishankar Nagar on Nanjangud Road here yesterday afternoon.

The deceased youth is Sunil Kumar (29), a resident of Gundu Rao Nagar. Sunil was stabbed with a dagger and assaulted with machetes by the group at the vacant land near the Irani Burial Grounds at Gowrishankar Nagar at the foot of Chamundi Hill. The group of youths had stabbed Sunil in the stomach and brutally assaulted him on his head and face before fleeing from the spot. Sunil, died on the spot due to severe bleeding.

K.R. Inspector Narayanaswamy and staff, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar. City Police Commissioner K.T. Balakrishna, DCP M. Muthuraj, K.R. Sub-Division ACP Nayak, City Fingerprint Unit personnel and the Dog Squad also visited the spot.

The City Top Cop said that preliminary investigations have revealed that Pramod alias Betta of Gowrishankar Nagar and his accomplices has murdered Sunil Kumar.

Details: Yesterday morning a minor accident took place near Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Ashrama during which an aged two-wheeler rider fell from his vehicle resulting in his (aged person) purse and other things being scattered on the road. 

Pramod’s father, who was present at the spot, began to collect the fallen things and in the process allegedly pocketed Rs. 2,000 currency note, which was noticed by a few persons who called Pramod over the phone and informed him.

Pramod, who rushed to the spot along with his accomplices, began to allegedly assault the aged person and Sunil Kumar, who was sipping tea at a nearby tea stall, intervened and stopped the fight. He (Sunil) took Rs. 2,000 cash from Pramod’s father and gave it to the aged person, which resulted in a fight between Sunil and Pramod. He (Pramod) was angered that Sunil had humiliated his father in the public.

Later, Sunil and his friends went to the vacant land near the Irani Burial Grounds to play cricket and were waiting for others to arrive.

Meanwhile, Pramod, who arrived at the spot along with his accomplices, began to assault Sunil with lethal weapons. Sunil’s friends who went to his rescue were threatened by the gang and fearing their lives, they ran for safety. But by the time, Sunil was stabbed in his stomach and assaulted with machetes on his head and face resulting in him being killed on the spot, said the eyewitness to the Police.

It is learnt that Sunil Kumar was running PMK Stores at Devaraja Market where he was selling puja materials and was also lending money on interest. He was married five years ago and has a four-year-old daughter.

Pramod is accused in an attempt to murder case and was out on bail. In the background of a youth stabbing a girl in Mangaluru and the brutal murder of Sunil Kumar yesterday afternoon has shocked the public. 

K.R. Police, who have registered a case are investigating.
