Youths fry pakodas, demand jobs

February 3, 2018

Mysuru: “Isn’t Pakoda-frying also a profession?” Prime Minister Narendra Modi had classified this also as a job among the 4,000 other daily business in the unorganised sector. Hence, demanding a separate policy for this sector, ‘Udyogakkaagi Yuvajanaru’ (Youth for Jobs), an organisation working in the interest of youths, staged a novel protest by frying pakodas in front of Gandhiji’s bust opposite the Mysuru Law Courts, here yesterday.

They urged the PM, who is visiting Bengaluru tomorrow (Feb.4), to announce a policy for the benefit of people  working in over 4,000 different kinds of jobs in the unorganised sector.

Reacting to a question from a private TV channel, they have countered, “Is not working in the farm sector, selling tea and pakodas a profession?” No one has said that these are not jobs. Besides, Modi has not done anything to this sector, they said expressing their anger.

“In the current Budget, there is no scheme or policy for self-employed. There is no clarity on minimum support price for agriculture products. Is this your commitment?” asked the protesters. What we expect from the political parties is alternative schemes not pakoda stalls. “We need to live a life of dignity and we need a secure life, is all we demand,” they urged.

Litterateur Bannur K. Raju, speaking on the occasion, said that it was not right on the part of the PM to speak lightly about job creations. There is definitely dignity in selling pakodas and tea on the roadside. The Central Government instead of asking youths who have completed higher education to sell pakodas and bajjis should concentrate on providing them jobs.

There is no stress on jobs in this Budget. At least during the Bengaluru visit Modi should clearly announce a policy regarding job security for the youths, he demanded.

ONE COMMENT ON THIS POST To “Youths fry pakodas, demand jobs”

  1. Raju says:

First of all, selling Pakoda is a job with sef respect while begging is also a job like Chidambaram said, but begging is a job without any self respect. So, if these people trying to tell us that selling Pakoda is a menial job, then, they did not learn to think in spite of their education ! There is what is called a dignity of labour that every honest profession has! These people have insulted them all!
If their education did not even teach them that the world is competitive , then, they have missed the basic purpose of education! Holding a degree certificate in hand does not make them educated! If a street dog grabs a law degree certificate from a university will not make it a lawyer! It did not earn it! It appears like these “Degree holders” did not seem to earn their degree in the true sense! If they just think that the government should be give them a job even when they are incompetent , .then, they are, more suitable t.o be the beggars! I think Chidambaram said the correct thing for them! They just are nothing but future beggars with a degree!
If this did not shame them, then, nothing will!
If they want to change, they need to take a serious look at their life! Unemployment and underemployment are the only future for those who expect government to solve your problems! You people have a degree which majority of the people don’t have! Try to think for once and make yourself worthy of some employment ! Our government’s have been dedriminationg against some castes! But you can see all these people found employment in private sectors, many self employed ! That is the true education ! Not becoming beggars with a degreee!- This is a competitive world and begging is not a choice for people with self respect.. they would rather donate their organs and commit suicide!
For others, they make take the hint from Chidambaram and become beggers.. may be that is a lucrative choice!
