1,700 athletes take part in Mysuru 10K Run

Mysore/Mysuru: A total of 1,700 athletes took part in the Mysuru 10K Run organised by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) as part of the Dasara Sports in city this morning.

DYES Commissioner R. Chethan flagged-off the Mysuru 10K Run at Chamundi Vihar Stadium at 6.30 am.

The competition was organised in two age categories for both men and women — 15-45 years and 45 years & above.

The run, which started from the Stadium, passed through Hardinge Circle, City Bus Stand, K.R. Circle, D. Devaraj Urs Road, Old DC’s Office, Kalamandira, Government Press, Saraswathipuram Fire Station, Maharaja’s College Junction, Ramaswamy Circle, Shanthala Theatre Signal, Basaveshwara Circle, Gun House, Hardinge Circle, Vasanth Mahal Road, Gopala Gowda Shanthaveri Memorial Hospital Circle, before culminating at the starting point.

The DYES also presented cash prizes to the winners, both men and women, in each of the category which included Rs. 10,000 for the first place, Rs. 7,000 for second place and Rs. 5,000 for third place.

In the 15-45 years category, consolation prize of Rs. 1,000 each was presented to athletes who secured 4th to 10th place.

Dasara Sports Sub-Committee Working President Jithendra Shetty and DYES Assistant Director Bhaskar Naik were present on the occasion.

Women (15 years to 45 years): 1. C. Poornima (0:41:16), 2. Ashwini Police (0:41:39), 3. S. Jayashree (0:42:57)

Men (above 45 years): 1. T.H. Ganesh (0:40:53), 2. B.P. Ponnappa (0:46:06), 3. Dr. K.R. Ramakrishna (0:47:00)

Women (above 45 years): 1. S. Shyamala (0:54:49), 2. Beena Fernandes (0:55:48), 3. N.R. Shobha (0:56:39).
