1XBET Mysore Derby, weekend races on Oct. 28, 29

October 26, 2023

Total stakemoney for the derby is Rs. 1 crore and the winner will pocket Rs. 57 lakh, announces MRC Chairman K.M. Chandre Gowda

Mysore Race Club (MRC) Ltd. is conducting 1XBET Mysore Derby-2023 (Grade-1) and weekend races on Oct. 28 and  Oct. 29 in the city.

Chairman and Senior Steward of MRC K.M. Chandre Gowda told media persons in the MRC premises last evening, “Following COVID-19 pandemic, Mysore Derby races were not conducted for two years. The forthcoming derby will be the 48th edition as the first Mysore Derby was run in 1974. It was won by ‘b c MIDNIGHT COWBOY’ horse, ridden by Jockey R. Alford and trained by Trainer Moses with net value to the winner Rs. 1,17,151. Out of 47 Derby winners, 39 were colts/gelding (male horses) and eight were fillies (female). ‘Sir Cecil gr g’ ridden by Jockey P. Trevor and trained by Trainer Padmanabhan in the year 2019 holds the course record for faster timing for Mysore Derby Winner at 1.59.058 minutes.”

The total stakemoney for the derby is Rs. 1 crore  and the winner gets a purse of Rs. 57 lakh, followed by second place – Rs. 19 lakh, third place – Rs. 9.5 lakh, fourth place – Rs. 4.75 lakh, fifth place – Rs. 2.85 lakh and sixth place – Rs. 1.9 lakh.

A total of nine horses will be running in the derby, majority of eight from Bengaluru and one of Mysuru. Being one of the prestigious races, about 8,000 to 9,000 people watched the previous derby at MRC. Similar is the expectation this time too, with the horses running in the derby being popular at the  national level.

The Club would also be conducting a ‘Contest of Skill’ where an Alto Car will be given as a bumper prize, followed by two prizes of motorbikes and other consolation prizes. All entrants will get a contest form at the entry and those who pay Rs. 1,000 and above in the tote on a single ticket will be entitled for one additional contest form for                       each such bet.

To a query on delay in assuming the charge as MRC Chairman, Gowda attributed it to the delay in conducting Annual General Body Meeting.

“I am working towards getting justice in favour of MRC with regard to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed at the High Court questioning the contractual agreement related to MRC land,” said Gowda.

On the social service initiatives of MRC, Gowda said: “Apart from Mysuru, MRC Eye Hospital is conducting free eye check-up camps at Mandya, Hassan, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar districts for the benefit of the poor.”

To a specific query on increasing the number of members at MRC during his tenure in office, Gowda said: “Nothing can be said about future steps at this juncture, as there is no decision yet in this regard.”

MRC Stewards K.G. Anantharaj Urs, H.K. Ramesh and K.N. Suresh Kumar, Secretary and CEO NHS Mani, Committee Members A.S. Ajith Kumar Raj Urs, Jayaraj Urs, Dr. M.V. Venu and Deputy Secretary Dr. M.R. Jagannath were present.
