Kollegal: In a tragic incident, two persons including the one who had hosted a party to celebrate on him getting a job were drowned in River Cauvery near Danagere in the taluk last evening. The deceased have been identified as Anil (25), son of ASI Shivaswamy, attached to Chamarajanagar Traffic Police Station and Keerthan, son of retired teacher Antony, who was pursuing his B.Ed course at a College in Malavalli and is a resident of Kollegal.

It is reported that Anil, who got a job at CHESCOM about three days ago, hosted a party for his friends Keerthan, Sunil, Dinakar and Harshith and took them to River Cauvery to celebrate the occasion.

At about 4 pm yesterday, all the five ventured into the river. As Anil and Keerthan did not know swimming, they were swept away due to strong current and were unable to save themselves while the other three managed to swim to safety. A case has been registered at Rural Police Station in this regard.
