202 graduates receive degrees at JSS Medical College Convocation

“Focus on serving rural folk”

Mysore/Mysuru:  In his graduation address to the 202 new MBBS graduates of JSS Medical College, Mysuru, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat,  Vice-Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), said, “Focus on serving the rural people where there is more need for medical attention and limited resources available to you. This will help you realise how noble and revered a doctor’s profession is.” 

The annual convocation ceremony of JSS Medical College was held at Sri Rajendra Auditorium, College premises, here at Bannimantap yesterday. The graduates were administered the ‘Hippocratic Oath’ and then, presented with graduation certificates and medals by Dr. Bhat in the presence of Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji. Dr. Bhat also congratulated the staff and parents for their respective contributions. 

Commending the role of women doctors in the country and across the globe, Dr. Bhat spoke about the importance of medical colleges and the quality of education they impart. With medical colleges mushrooming in the country, the quality of the education needs to be closely monitored, he added.   

Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, presided. Dr. B. Suresh, Pro-Chancellor and Dr. Surinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, were the guests of honour. Dr. B. Manjunatha, Registrar, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research and Dr. H. Basavana Gowdappa, Principal, JSS Medical College,  were also present. 

Nine meritorious students were presented gold medals and cash prizes for their academic excellence. Professor Y.T. Thathachari endowment prize for ‘Best Research Publication’ and ‘Best Teacher’ award were also presented to the College Faculty on the occasion.

Dr. Preethi Prakash Prabhu (Mysuru), was awarded five gold medals — Ambabai Nanjundaiah Memorial gold medal for ‘Best Outgoing Student’; Dr. Mannakrishna Memorial gold medal for securing highest marks in Anatomy; M.N. Basavarajaiah Memorial gold medal for securing highest marks in Medicine; Sarojini Siddappa Manoli Memorial gold medal for securing highest marks in OBG and Dr. Sumana S. Rao award for ‘Best student in Psychiatry.’ Dr. Preethi was also awarded five cash prizes for being the topper in Physiology, Com. Medicine, highest marks in MBBS Phase-1,2&3, Vijayraghavachar and Sathyavathi endowment cash prize for securing highest marks in Medicine.

Dr. A. Meenu (Kerala) was awarded two gold medals — M.D. Chikkaveerappa Memorial gold medal for securing highest marks in Biochemistry and Dr. M.N. Channabasappa Memorial gold medal for highest marks in Surgery.

Dr. K.R. Rashmi (Chikkaballapura) was awarded Dr. D.S. Sivappa Memorial gold medal for securing highest marks in Pharmacology and      two cash prizes for being the topper in Forensic medicine and MBBS Phase-2.

Dr. Delina Rosemary Roger (Kerala) was awarded Dr. M.K. Meera gold medal for securing highest marks in Pathology; Dr. Salvya S. Raj (Kerala) was awarded three cash prizes for being the topper in Forensic medicine, Com. Medicine and Ophthalmology; Dr. B. Chandrika (Mangaluru) was also awarded three cash prizes for topping in E.N.T, Paediatrics and securing highest marks in MBBS-Phase 1 & 3; Dr. Akshara Prasad (Chennai) was awarded cash prize for topping in Microbiology; Dr. Rajashree R. Kalkura (Kerala) was awarded cash prize for being topper in Forensic medicine and Dr. B.N. Anushree (Puttur) was awarded cash prize for being a topper in Paediatrics, according to a press release from the College Principal.
