25th Sarasa Translation Workshop held at Dhvanyaloka

October 13, 2025

Mysuru, Oct. 13- The Sarasa Translation Workshop, which was first launched in the year 2000, recently achieved a significant milestone in completing 25 years of uninterrupted existence alongside the journal Sarasa edited by Prof. C.N. Srinath, Director, Dhvanyaloka, Bogadi Road, Mysuru.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Srinath remarked how Sarasa was the only journal in the country exclusively devoted to translation at the time of its inception and had curiously remained so even after 25 years.

The two-day event, he observed, was not only a moment of celebration, but also one of introspection, necessitating some self-searching questions. He however admitted with a touch of pride that the annual workshops had offered many fascinating moments of ecstasy and challenge.

An important observation he made was that distinguished participants who had gathered were not only regular contributors to Sarasa, but had even independently produced some remarkable translations of both ancient and modern classics such as Harihara Ragale, Vaddaradhane, Sarvajna Vachanas, Mankutimmana Kagga and Western classics such as Divine Comedy, Light of Asia, Things Fall Apart, etc.

Prof. Srinath’s welcome speech was followed by a series of presentations by senior scholars resulting in fruitful discussions.

Also there was an hour-long inspiring talk by Dr. Usha Hegde, the first and only woman mountaineer from Karnataka to have scaled Mt.Everest in 2024 and an outstanding violin performance by the legendary Dr. Mysore Manjunath and his son Sumanth ably accompanied by two mridanga artistes, making it a fitting finale to the Silver Jubilee function.

The release of Prof. Srinath’s translation of two American Poets and the other of his own poetry by Prof. TRS Sharma brought the curtains down on a memorable evening.
