Mysuru: The 2nd National Inter-Club Swimming Championship-2017, organised by the Karnataka Swimming Association at the Chamundi Vihar Sports Complex Swimming Pool, Mysuru, began this morning. The formal Inauguration will be held at 4 pm today.
The championships will be held from Nov.5 to Nov.7. Participants from various parts of the country (Orissa, Pune, West Bengal, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Telengana, Karnataka,etc.) are participating in this event which is being held for the first time in Mysuru .The event will be held for three days and will have three different age categories (U-10, U-12, U-14). Around 500 participants are expected to take part in this competition.
Any club associated with Swimming Federation of India unit could take part in this event. M. Satish Kumar, Secretary, Karnataka Swimming Association, speaking to SOM, said, “Only two swimmers from a State get to represent the Nationals; but here in this competition every club of every city gets a chance to send 4 participants. Thus creating opportunity for every club, paving a national level exposure for swimmers.” The aim of this competition is to create a motivational drive among swimmers to represent Swimming Federation of India in the National Championship.
The chief guests for the event will be M. Jagannatha Shenoy, Industrialist, Mysuru and Ravi D. Channannavar, SP, Mysore District. M.K. Somashekar, MLA, Krishna Raja Constituency, Mysuru will preside over the event and Dr.C. Krishna, Former Director, University of Mysore, Mysuru will be the guest of honour. The formal inaugural will be held at 4 pm today.
