Mysuru: Selva Jayaraman, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Business Integra, USA, said that skills and expertise are key for securing jobs.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the 17th Graduates Day of JSS College for Women held at Navajyothi auditorium in Saraswathipuram here recently.
Pointing out that technology plays a vital role in the nation’s growth and development, Selva Jayaraman said that Independent India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had said this when he took office post-independence.
“About 30 percent graduates in the entire world are jobless today for want of necessary skills or expertise in a particular field. As such, it is important that young graduates realise the importance of acquiring skills and practical experience apart from excelling in academics. Technology is developing at a fast pace in India today. In this backdrop, it can be said that the increase in the number of IITs and other professional colleges is a good development. Students must understand that failure is the stepping stone to success. As such, the students should not be disappointed at failures and must keep on trying to achieve their set goals,” he noted. He also shared his experiences on the difficult life that he led in the past and the way he became a successful entrepreneur in USA.
As many as 653 students of various courses received their degrees on the occasion.
