Mysuru: Following the case pertaining to sharing of Cauvery River water with Tamil Nadu scheduled to come up for hearing at Supreme Court today and farmers threatening to storm KRS reservoir, additional security has been provided at the reservoir to prevent any untoward incidents.
The Karnataka Government had yesterday filed an affidavit before the Apex Court, claiming that they had released more water from Cauvery River to Tamil Nadu than what was allotted to it while settling the dispute.
As a precautionary measure, personnel of Para-Military Force, KSRP, DAR Police, along with Srirangapatna and KRS Police, have been deployed at the South and North Gate of the dam and near Cauvery statue in KRS today.
To prevent people from entering the dam from North Bank which connects Mandya Road, additional force has been deployed and the Police have erected barricades at vantage points.
Srirangapatna Circle Inspector Ravindra is leading the security at KRS.
But why did Karnataka release more water to Tamilnadu than what was allotted to it when settling the dispute.?
There are reports of 16 TMC of excess Cauvery water was released while Karnataka farmers are begging our Govt.for water for agriculture.
Is our Govt. sleeping or busy with election ?
Since Tamilnadu hasn’t disputed it, this information could be true. You need to understand where it is measured. At Biligundlu (the border), it is measured. Apart from the released water from the KRS dam, rains along the path from KRS till Biligundlu could’ve added up too. Also this is for the whole year; say, during Oct-Dec (NE monsoon time), this could’ve happened.
I am fully aware that water discharge from Cauvery is measured at Biligundlu, Tamilnadu border.
It is not that rain water during NE monsoon from KRS dam up to TN border has happened this year but is going on since ages.
16.44 tmcft is massive quantity of water that could have been prevented by the Govt. Supervisory authority from flowing into TN, if they had checked and monitored the flow, thereby restricting outflow from KRS dam.
In May 2018, when Supreme Court ordered Karnataka Govt.to release 4 tmcft to TN, our ministers cut a sorry figure by informing that they have only 9 tmcft in our reservoirs which could barely meet drinking water requirements.
This 16 tmcft could have been handy and why deprive our farmers of water?
