Well, Mysuru has again missed the bus. The first three positions of the clean city tag has gone to Indore, Bhopal and Chandigarh respectively. Mysuru, which some years back had bagged the cleanest city tag, has got a consolation prize, the cleanest city among the city with the population of three lakh to one million !
What is however alarming is that Mysuru is not even in the list of first five in spite of the fact that the Mysuru City Corporation went into an overdrive when the Central Committee came for inspection. How clean is clean? It is comparative, Mysuru is considered clean in comparison with other cities with similar population.
The on-field survey has been conducted by an independent agency and data for ranking of the cities has been collected from three sources — service level progress, direct observation by random field visits and citizen feedback, which has been given the highest weightage of 35 percent!
Blaming the government for everything has become a habit which I feel is wrong. We the citizens have no role to play in keeping this city clean? Educated and the so-called elite clean their houses and dump the garbage outside their homes and then start blaming the government for the mess !
If every Mysurean starts keeping their homes /office/factory and surroundings clean, half the battle is won and it will not be difficult for Mysuru to get the coveted first spot again. But who will bell the cat ?
