Instructs officials to clear clogged drains, encroachments

Mysuru: State Higher Education and Mysuru District in-Charge Minister G.T. Devegowda visited rain-hit  areas in various parts of Hinkal yesterday to take stock of the situation there.

Sunday overnight rains in Mysuru had left several houses in low-lying areas flooded. Rain water entered many houses in Tammadagiri in Hinkal, Shanthinagar and Udayagiri in Narasimharaja Assembly segment, Vidyaranyapura in Krishnaraja Assembly constituency in city.

Rain that began in the midnight disrupted normal life yesterday morning with water logging reported from prominent streets.

Many houses were flooded with rain water in Tammadageri near Nanneshwara Temple in Hinkal, leaving residents to spend sleepless night and forcing them to look ways to safeguard their property.

On receiving complaints from public, the Minister, accompanied with Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Superintending Engineer Suresh Babu visited rain-affected places in Hinkal, which also comes under his Chamundeshwari Assembly segment.

The residents there complained that they were affected a lot by clogging of storm water drains and appealed him to take immediate steps to solve the problem. They demanded the Minister to find a permanent solution to put an end to all rain- related woes in their area.

Responding to the complaints, the Minister assured them, the District Administration had already taken steps to clear the encroachments of storm water drains besides removal of silt from clogged drains.

He said that he had given directions to MUDA Officials to construct the drainage on both sides of the road and take all possible steps for flow of drainage water easily.
