Mysuru: A Grand Vocal and a Violin Duet concerts have been organised at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road in city for the Festival weekend on Nov.10 and 11.

On Nov.10 at 6 pm, Vidu. Brinda Manickavasagam will render a vocal concert for Smt. Rukmini Ammal and Sri Ramaswamy Iyengar Memorial Concert, sponsored by children Madhuri Thathachari and Dr. R. Srinivasan. She will be supported by Vaibhav Ramani – violin, Nikshit Puttur – mridanga and R. Srinidhi – ghata.

On Nov.11 at 5.30 pm, Lalgudi GJR Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi will present a Violin Duet for Smt. D. Rama Bai Memorial Concert sponsored by Dr. Jagannath Shenoy. They will be accompanied by H.S. Sudheendra and G.S. Ramanujan on mridanga and ghata respectively.

Artistes’ Profile

Brinda is a performing vocalist in Indian Classical Karnatak Music, based in Chennai. She has been performing for the past 17 years. She is an ‘A’ grade artiste of AIR, Chennai. For the last nine years, she is under Sangeetha Kalaacharya Suguna Varadachari. Multi-talented Brinda is trained in veena by Radhika Chandrashekar and Radhika Bhaskar, Bharatanatyam by Melatur S. Natarajan; Thiruppugazh by Vilasini Karthik.

She is pursuing Ph.D in Music from University of Madras. A B.Tech in IT, she did her PG at US and a certificate course in Western Music from UK. She has performed in major Sabhas across India, Middle East and US.

Lalgudi Siblings: Being children and student of legendary Lalgudi Jayaraman, Gopala Iyer Jayaraman Radhakrishnan, popularly known as GJR Krishnan and Vijayalakshmi, are Karnatak violinists, vocalist and composer.

The duo travel extensively on musical tours all over the world. Their style like  father is the Gayaka style closest to vocal rendition.

GJR Krishnan typically performs duets with his sister, Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi. True to his father’s legacy, audience can decipher the sahitya from their performance.
