Mumbai/Mysuru: Die-hard Jawa motorcycle enthusiasts have a reason to rejoice as three variants of Jawa bikes were launched in Mumbai yesterday.
Classic Legends, a subsidiary of Mahindra and Mahindra, relaunched the iconic Czech motorcycle which were earlier made in Mysuru by Ideal Jawa which shut down 22 years ago.
The new bikes are all 293-cc bikes equipped with liquid cooled, single cylinder, double overhead cam engine with a double cradle chassis.
The bikes are now being produced in Indore and the online booking opened yesterday. The first bike will be delivered on Dec. 7.
The three models are, Jawa priced at Rs. 1.64 lakh, Jawa 42 priced at Rs. 1.55 lakh and a customised bobber model called the Jawa Perak, which is priced at Rs. 1.89 lakh (All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
The company claims that the new bikes have a better build, power and lower centre of gravity.
The new Jawa bike comes in three colours – Black, Grey and Maroon while the Jawa 42 will have six colours — Halley’ Teal, Galactic Green, Starlight Blue Lumos Lime, Nebula Blue and Comet Red.
Meanwhile, Gavin Wilson a Jawa bike collector from Mysuru who was invited for the lunch in Mumbai speaking to Star of Mysore said that the launch yesterday was jam packed with jawa enthusiasts and many were waiting for long hours for a test ride.
Khizer of Jawa Friends Club, Mysuru said that he could not go for the launch yesterday as he was preoccupied and added that a few club members visited Mumbai for the launch.
When asked if anyone from the club had booked a bike, he replied in negative.
Wouldn’t be nice, if Jawa reopened a plant to produce these motor cycles in Mysuru again? I have no doubt Mysooreans will welcome it enthusiastically!
I still remember, ideal Jawa was one of the very successful companies which produced Yezdi! Mysoreans were simple and hardworking! In 1971, Calcutta based Mahindra and Mahindra has some labor trouble in Calcutta and transferred a few active communist labor union leaders to their Mysore production unit! Those communist leaders “educated ” the union leaders in all the factories at Mysore , that were working very peacefully? Next 3-4 years, all mist all the factories went on strike , labor unrest until almost all if them closed! Communists did to Mysore what they did to West Bengal!
Communists have no rights in China but don’t complain, but they exercize their rights in democratic environment to shutdown normal life!
Thanks for the information. I had no idea about the reason for closing of Ideal Jawa. I thought after Farouk Irani passed away the management was bad, hence the closing. However, it is sad the factory closed. The trade union leaders in India don’t care about the welfare of the workers, but for political reasons they don’t mind destroying workers livelihood.their livelihood! So sad!N
Communists are nothing but pain! Many private companies that stated in Mysore were closed down because labor unions instigated the workers to go on strike demanding salary hike and bonuses when the companies were making humongous loss as the factories were closed most of the part of the year due to strikes!
Communists are funny souls, on one side they talk about human rights and the other side they support Naxalism. Most of the left wing people are naxal sympathizers.
They are more dangerous than the grand old party Congress. They don’t simply get a thing called development. If you see around the world each and every communist nation failed.
North Korea,Cuba,Russia and the list goes on, wherever the communists were at the helm those nations marched towards disaster.
The state of West Bengal is a classic example of how a state shouldn’t be ruled! 30 years of communist misrule scared bengalis so much so that that they are happy with even Mamta Banerjee who has mastered the art of playing communal politics. Mysore narrowly escaped from becoming a communist stronghold, after all the factories closed and filed bankruptcy, they lost support!
The city of Kolkata which was once the capital of India and had a glorious past, but frequent labor unrest by communists has made that city a dump as even garbage collectors go on strike holding the city hostage! If they try to do this in China, they will be executed in 5 minutes!
How many times they marched for the tribals who constantly harassed by Naxals? How many times have they spoken on behalf of the Police and Army?
Their favourite past time is abusing army, advocating for terrorists citing human rights and abusing Hindu religion and customs.
Both the communist parties CPM and CPI were relegated to pathetic situation in India because they lost their base and they failed to understand the aspirations of the youth.
Except people like Kanhaiah Kumar ,Shehla Rashid and Umar khaleed nobody attracts to communism.
Most of the editors in print and electronic media are left leaning and that’s why these clowns like Kanhaiah Kumar are getting lot if coverage in media.
Even you can see the sample of how ugly the communists are under the column “point of view” by George! Every one of the pieces he writes reeks of hatred and contempt against Indian values, Democracy and progress!
