Mata Amritanandamayi at 19th  Brahmastanam Varshikotsava

Mysuru: The importance given to Science and Technology these days must also be given to protecting nature and culture, said Mata Amritanandamayi, fondly called as Amma.

She was speaking at the 19th  Brahmastanam Varshikotsava while participating in bhajans, satsang and dhyana organised at the Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt premises in Bogadi 2nd Stage here yesterday and said that just as Science and Technology is the focus today, the concentration must also be on conserving nature, culture and learning to give equal importance to fellow beings otherwise, the society would be like a chair with a broken leg and those who sit on it are bound to fall, she cautioned.

Just as one cannot enjoy music without proper tone, notes, melody or rhythmic cycles, even in life, nature sets the tone, notes and melody and if one does not follow the nature’s cycles then one cannot enjoy peace and bliss. Hence, it is very important to follow nature’s rules and thus lay stress on equality, sacrifice, and yajna, she said.

Criticism, comments are good: Criticism and comments are always good for the growth of a healthy society. All of us have freedom to criticise and comment. However, one does not have the freedom to bring in disharmony in the society by criticising or making comments that would hurt people’s sentiments. Instead, if it is used for the betterment of the society, it is always welcome, she pointed out.

There is message in natural disaster: In every natural disasters that occurs, there is a hidden message, which means all it requires for nature that is giving so much bounteously, is to destroy it all in a minute. If one understands this simple truth, then one will learn to respect nature in thought, deed and action. Then nature will not become man’s enemy and instead become his closest ally, she said.

Today we are all living in a fast paced world. Speed is our mantra and all of us are in a tearing hurry to complete every task very fast. As a result, we do not have time for anything and hence not only is man caught in stress in the outside world, but also internally he is stressed. The body is not able to cope up with the mind that is racing all the time. This has resulted in anger, sorrow, disappointment, tension, hate, intolerance and lack of self confidence, said Mata Amritanandamayi.

For instance, when the aircraft is flying it develops a technical snag. The pilot calls the control room and informs about the problem. The first problem is that the engines have stalled, one does not know in which direction the aeroplane is flying and there is no control over the aircraft. However, the pilot calmly tells the passengers not to panic and ask them to sit back and relax. This is exactly the situation that most of mankind is in today. There is no patience and equanimity and hence, he is not able to understand his aim in life. As a result, it becomes very important to ask simple questions and find answers to them, she said.
