CM likely to dedicate new facility at Zoo by month-end

Mysuru  – In addition to the already existing amphitheatres at Vanaranga in Rangayana and Open Air Theatre in Manasagangothri, the city gets yet another amphitheatre at the famous Mysuru Zoo.

The 500-seat open sky amphitheatre, which was initiated during the tenure of B.P. Ravi as Zoo Executive Director, has been built in an area of 1,100 sq mts at a cost of around Rs. 2.3 crore.

The newly-constructed amphitheatre has been given aesthetic touch with murals of tigers and other wild animals greeting the visitors at the entrance. It is also an ideal place for the Zoo to conduct various events such as talks on wildlife conservation, drawing and painting competition and Youth Club activities.

Speaking to Star of Mysore this morning, Zoo Authority of Karnataka Chairperson Mallige Veeresh said that she was waiting for dates from Chief Minister’s office to fix a final date for the inauguration of amphitheatre.

“Not only Chief Minister Siddharamaiah, we will also invite District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa and Forest Minister B. Ramanath Rai for the inauguration. We are hoping that the new facility would be dedicated to Mysureans by the end of this month,” she added.

Mysuru city seems to be getting inspired by the Roman era, where one finds amphitheatres in various locations. Any new city development plan will definitely feature an amphitheatre.

After, the one at the Zoo, Mysuru is all set to get two more amphitheatres, one at Gokulam and another inside the Town Hall premises.
