Cricket is a very popular game in our country and many youngsters have taken up cricket as their career. Mysuru has also its share of producing talented cricketers who have gone on to represent the State and the country. Mysuru city’s talented cricketer M. Utham Aiyappa represented University of Mysore in the All India Rohinton Baria Trophy Inter-University Cricket Tournament 2018-19 and excelled with the ball for his team and helped them to clinch the Runner-up Trophy. A lanky fast bowler M. Utham Aiyappa excelled through-out the tournament and performed well for University of Mysore. He has been selected to the Vizzy Trophy tournament. He is our “Star This Week”. In the semi-finals against VBS PU, Jaunpur, which UoM won by 28-runs. This excellent performance of Utham and other team-mates led by Madan enabled University of Mysore to finish runner-up in the Rohinton Baria Trophy. The last time the UoM won the title was in 1961-62. In 2004-05, UoM finished fourth.
In the South Zone leg of the tournament also Utham Aiyappa bowled well against Madurai Kamaraj University (one for 11). In the semi-finals against Hindustan IT&S, Chennai he took two for 13 and in the finals against Jain University he bowled well. In the initial round match, Vels Institute of Science, Technology & Advanced Studies, Chennai, Utham Aiyappa took five for 28 and enabled UoM to score a seven-wicket win.
Utham Aiyappa plays for Jo Jo CC in the First Division League, Mysuru. He has also performed well for his club and was an important member of the team which clinched the KSCA Mysore Zone First Division title and T20 title.
He has been guided and coached by cricketer Surendra at the Jo Jo CC and he has been instrumental in the improvements shown by Utham in his game.
Encouraged by the KSCA Mysore Zone, University of Mysore coach Dr. Mansoor Ahmed and by his club Jo Jo CC, M. Utham Aiyappa, has the talent to make it to the higher league in the days to come.
He aims to work hard in the days to come and represent the State in the senior level.
