I will retire from politics if Modi becomes PM again: Revanna

April 11, 2019

Mysuru: Public Works Minister H.D. Revanna today said that he will retire from politics if Prime Minister Narendra Modi occupies the PM’s chair again. “He will not become the Prime Minister again and if he does, I will retire from politics,” he said addressing a press conference at Hotel Kings Kourt in city this morning.

Justifying his comments, Revanna said that this time, odds were piled up against Modi and the Congress and allies are emerging as a force. “This time, it is sure that the Mahaghatbandhan will be the ruling party,” he said, without saying who will be the Prime Ministerial candidate.

Revanna further said that the Congress and JD(S) coalition will secure maximum number of Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka. “For me, 6, 8 and 22 are lucky numbers. 18 means 1+8=9 and 9 is a very lucky number. Last time as elections were held in 2018, Kumaraswamy became the CM due to this lucky number factor. This time too, the voting day is 18 and in the first phase, 14 coalition candidates will become MPs and totally, 22 coalition candidates will be elected to the Parliament,” Revanna claimed.

The BJP is desperate and has stopped criticising Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi. “They are now targeting former PM H.D. Deve Gowda as Deve Gowda is giving sleepless nights to the BJP and he can achieve what is seen as impossible in national politics,” Revanna said without elaborating much.

When reporters questioned him on the statement of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy that reporters must get ready to be assaulted, Revanna said, “It is not that JD(S) is ready to beat up reporters but there is a group in BJP which is ready for the assault and put the blame on JD(S). I am advising you to be careful when you go for reporting,” he said.

On JD(S) winning Mandya, Revanna said that during the last elections, JD(S) had swept from Srirangapatna to Bidadi. “This time too, the voters will choose JD(S) candidates on Apr. 18,” he said. When reporters asked Revanna why he always roams with a couple of lemons in his hands, Revanna said, “When I go to villages, people give me lemons and I carry it always. How can I throw them? I can give lemons to Yeddyurappa and Eshwarappa too so that no one performs black magic on them,” he said.

Mysuru District Minister G.T. Devegowda, MLC Marithibbegowda, JD(S) State President A.H. Vishwanath, City Congress President R. Murthy, District President Dr. B.J. Vijayakumar and others were present.

    Dear Revanna,
Your statement will encourage more and more people to vote BJP.

Also, your family tends to make false promises (and hopes), but never follows through.

  2. PS says:

Cool! May 23rd is a day to celebrate for two reasons. Same PM will continue after May 23rd and Karnataka is going to get a new PWD minister. Hope this guy stick to his words.

  3. Raghu says:

For those who knows Revanna and his family members, there can’t me any more motivation than this To vote for Modi!

  4. Benami says:

Mr. Revanna should remember what happened when another prominent person said similar thing in 2014.

Late Mr. U R Anantha Murthy said he will leave India if BJP wins and Modi becomes prime minister. What happened? BJP won and Modi became PM. Mr. Anantha Murthy tried to wriggle out of it by saying he was only joking. Unfortunately, God had other plans for him. He did leave India not in the way he was thinking of.

So Mr. Revanna, remember “Man proposes, and God disposes!”.

  5. Anonymous says:

Folks, don’t be surprised if Revanna doesn’t leave politics. After all, the family is known for not keeping their word – “VACHANA BRASHTAS”.

  6. Sunil says:

We can understand his frustration! If Modi is elected again as PM with good majority, Gowda and family can’t continue the looting spree so easily! Also Safegaurding the looted wealth can also be a very difficult problem! Also, modi will be taking action action agaist benaami property! Most of gowda empire is in benami wealth! So, if Modi comes back to power Revanna doesn’t see any point in continuing in politics as it won’t pay anymore!

  7. swamy says:

Revanna is joking. If Modi wins, the coalting govt will fall, JDS will support and Revanna will become deputy CM. Kumarswamy will be central minister or will die soon of heart attack. JDS will blame congress that ” it did not follow ‘Mythri Dharma’, hence we are taking back the support”. If they don’t do this, Modi will have IT raids on this family. This is my prediction. BJP got SM Krishna, now they have to get Gowda family.

  8. Suresh says:

Will Revanna be sacked for anti-party activities by motivating people to vote for BJP ?

  9. DASH says:

Revanna never kept his words, He and his family have amassed wealth in the last 3 decade. Modi will definetly become PM and Revanna will have to come with excuses

  10. Ironically Mr.Revanna has emulated his father HD Devegowda in blurting out such senseless political bravado. The wily old politician that his father is Mr.HD Devegowda has forgotten the undertaking he took before 2014 Lok Sabha polls that he would leave the country if Modi is elected. And what is worse he not only ate his words but also showed the temerity and brazenness to claim that Modiji himself had persuaded him to stay back in India. Now the time is fast approaching again to keep up his word as Modiji is most likely to assume charge as PM for another term.No wonder that his baseless bragging is fast becoming a stock joke in India’s political world.
Similarly Revanna also needs to find some alibi to explain away Modiji’s return to power to stay himself politically afloat.

  11. Rahul says:

That makes the choice simpler! Now you have another reason why people should vote for BJP and bring him back to power! Eliminate the crop from politics!
