Mysuru: The Third Additional CJM Court has sentenced a man to two years jail for cheating a person in the guise of providing a medical seat.
The accused is 43-year-old Ashok G. Olekar, a resident of Ramakrishnanagar ‘I’ Block in city.
Olekar, in 2002, had told Dr. Ananthanathan, that he knew a few persons at CET Cell and he would get his (Dr. Ananthanathan) daughter a seat at a medical college through CET rank for which Rs. 3.5 lakh was needed. Believing him, Dr. Ananthanathan had given him Rs. 1.25 lakh cash and had issued a bank cheque for Rs. 2.25 lakh.
As his daughter’s name did not appear in the CET list, Dr. Ananthanathan, requested the bank not to honour the cheque he had issued to Olekar and had lodged a complaint with the Court.
Following the order from the Court, Kuvempunagar Police had registered a case and the then Investigation Officers Mallesh and S.D. Ramakrishna had submitted a charge-sheet against accused Olekar to the Court.
Judge Sunil M. Hosamani, who heard the arguments from both sides found the accused guilty of the crime and sentenced him to two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5,000. Public Prosecutor C.B. Girish, argued on behalf of the government.
