State Brahmin Development Board seeks Rs.300 crore allocation in Budget

Mysore/Mysuru: Karnataka State Brahmin Development Board Chairman H.S. Sachidananda Murthy said that he will appeal Chief Minister B.S.Yediyurappa to allocate Rs. 300 crore for the Board in the State Budget to be presented on Mar. 5.

Speaking as a chief guest at the Foundation Laying ceremony for Brahmin Students Hostel being built by Karnataka Hoysala Sangha at KR Vanam here recently, Sachidananda Murthy said the Government has sanctioned Rs. 25 crore for infrastructure at the Board’s office in Bengaluru.

Maintaining that Brahmins play a  decisive role in the outcome of elections in 21 Assembly segments of the State, Sachidanandamurthy said that lack of community organisation has hindered access to facilities. Now that the Board has been established, he said he would strive for development of the community through various schemes, he noted.

Pointing out that according to the Census, there are 17 lakh Brahmins in the State, the Board Chairman claimed that the number is actually 48 lakhs, taking into account all                                                  Brahmin sub-castes. He also assured of all help by the Board for the Hostel.

Senior Community member and District Co-operative Union President H.V. Rajeev appealed community leaders and affluent families to extend help for the construction of the Hostel through generous donations.

Satyanarayana, City and District Brahmin  Association President D.T. Prakash, Corporators M.V. Ramprasad and M.C. Ramesh, MUDA EE S.K. Bhaskar and others were present.

The Hostel is coming up on a 1120 sq.metre plot at an estimated cost of Rs. 3 crore. The Hostel will have 40 rooms.
