Mysuru: The fear of Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) that there will be no demand for the Affordable Group Housing Scheme was unfounded as thousands of people who want to own a house in Mysuru are queuing up in front of its office on JLB Road. MUDA is giving applications for the “Demand Survey” being carried out for its housing scheme.

Over the last one week,  MUDA is flooded with applications and so far, it has received thousands of applications. And the scheme is still in the planning stage and MUDA is only giving applications now to assess the number of aspirants as part of “Demand Survey.”

With pressure mounting on MUDA from aspirants who want to own houses here, MUDA has planned to construct over 2,000 houses under Affordable Group Housing Scheme at Vijayanagar First, Second, Third and Fourth Stages and also in J.P. Nagar.

These housing complexes will have a ground floor and three floors and will be divided into Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Higher Income Group (HIG), Middle Income Group (MIG) and Lower Income Group (LIG). They will have one, two and three bedrooms depending on the categories. Applications are being issued for all the categories of houses to assess the demand, said MUDA officials.

“The houses are affordable and at the same time fulfil people’s desire to own a house. Before planning the houses, MUDA normally conducts a “Demand Survey” to find out the number of aspirants. After filling in the applications, house aspirants need to submit it along with Aadhaar details. We have got huge response from people and on an average, we are getting over 10,000 applications per day and there is a long  queue in front of MUDA at any given point of time,” MUDA Chairman D. Dhruvakumar toldStar of Mysore.

Yesterday was the last day for the issue of applications and due to the number of applicants and due to pressure from aspirants, MUDA has extended the last date by 10 days, he said. Once the applications are received, MUDA will issue the notification, Dhruvakumar added.

It may be recalled here that MUDA’s affordable housing project did not receive the desired response earlier as the quality of construction did not satisfy the prospective buyers. But now people seem to be desperate for housing that they seem to have compromised on quality of construction.
