MUDA Chairman inaugurates ‘Kollapur Mahalakshmi Hall’

Mysore/Mysuru: Stating that the hotel industry and tourism industry are picking up slowly post-relaxation in COVID-19 regulations, Mysuru Hotel Owners Association President C. Narayanagowda said that the hotel industry in Mysuru is expected to return to normalcy by April next year.

He was speaking at the inauguration of new ‘Kollapur Mahalakshmi Hall’ at the third floor of the Association Office in Krishnamurthypuram this morning.

Pointing out that there are over 1,500 hotels, restaurants, bakeries etc., in the city, Narayanagowda said hotels in Mysuru recorded only 20 percent business in the first three months post-lockdown relaxation announced in August. However, the business has picked up substantially in the past 15 days, with most hotels reporting 40 percent of their normal business, which is an encouraging sign for hoteliers.

Observing that the business is most likely to return to pre-lockdown days by April 2021, that is five months from now, Narayanagowda noted that the tourism industry too is picking up slowly, with bookings in hotels and lodges witnessing a considerable increase over the past few days.

Contending that the return of transportation (Road, Railways and Air) and travel industry  is key for the revival of the tourism sector in Mysuru region, he expressed hope that the tourism industry, which had touched nadir during the lockdown days, may also see a revival with the re-opening of  educational  institutions and full scale resumption of  all other commercial activities and businesses.

He further said that total lifting  of inter-State travel  restrictions is also vital for tourism sector.
