Wild elephants destroy banana, coconut plantations in Hunsur

Hunsur: Wild elephants, which have been creating menace in Hunsur taluk, have continued the havoc in and around Gurupura in the taluk. 

On Tuesday night, wild elephants, which ventured out of Nagarahole Forest, entered a banana plantation belonging to Jayamma and Mahadeva Shetty at Majigurupura village in Hanagod hobli, destroyed the plantation besides destroying coconut saplings.

Meanwhile, farmers said that they are suffering from huge losses due to elephants destroying their crops. They alleged that the Forest Department has failed to drive the elephant herd which have stayed put at Hunasekatte and urged Hunsur MLA H.P. Manjunath to take steps to control the menace caused by wild elephants and provide adequate compensation to farmers, who have lost their crops.
