Nanjangud: Nanjangud Tahsildar Mohanakumari has asked officials to get prepared for tackling floods that may come about in the third week of July.
She was addressing a flood preparatory meeting at the Taluk Office here yesterday.
She noted that according to previous statistics, about 10 villages along the banks of river Kapila and three Nanjangud CMC wards — Halladakeri, Topina Beedi and Saraswathi Colony — would get flooded if the water level of Kapila river swells due to monsoon rains.
Pointing out that the floods usually occur in the third week of July after days of incessant rainfall in catchment areas, Mohanakumari stressed on the need for setting up of more Ganji Kendras than last year, as the COVID crisis is far worse this year. Asking the officials to identify spots where Ganji Kendras can be set up, she said that officials must also look for setting up of ‘Go Shalas’ for sheltering cattle during floods.
Directing the Agriculture and Horticulture Department officials to start conducting a crop survey in all flood-prone areas of the taluk, she said that such a survey well in advance will help in providing relief to flood-affected farmers much faster.
The Tahsildar instructed Health Department officials to get prepared for conducting a medical check-up of all those who will be sheltered in Ganji Kendras in case of floods.
Nanjangud TP EO Srinivas, CMC Commissioner Rajanna, AEE Srinivas, PWD AEE Mutturaj, Assistant Director of Agriculture Deepak, Horticulture Assistant Director Guruswamy and other officials were present.
