CM to halt demolition of religious structures: MP

September 13, 2021

Mysuru Officers have misread SC order, says Pratap Simha

Mysore/Mysuru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will intervene and direct the Mysuru District Administration to halt the demolition of religious structures and withdraw its list of 93 structures in public places that are set to be razed. There will be no more demolitions in Mysuru giving the excuse of a Supreme Court  (SC) order, said MP Pratap Simha.

Addressing reporters at Jaladarshini Guest House this morning, the MP said that the CM had spoken to him today and has responded positively. “The CM spoke to me over phone this morning regarding demolition of Temples and said that he will instruct the Officers to halt all demolitions. A new list will be prepared after considering each structure on a case-to-case basis and no structure will be demolished,” Simha said.

The CM has assured the MP that after each of the 93 structures that have been identified for demolition is examined in detail if there is a chance for relocation and regularisation, a fresh affidavit will be submitted before the Apex Court.  “The Officers of Mysuru have misconstrued the SC order and are selectively targeting Temples. This is not acceptable and we will not allow it,” the MP added.

“The CM has understood the sensitivity of the issue and I told him how Uchchagani Aadishakthi Mahadevamma Temple in Nanjangud that has a history of over 500 years was razed overnight based on the orders by the Tahsildar. The CM has promised action against the Tahsildar,” the MP added.

“The Supreme Court has said that only those structures that have come up in public places after 2009 will fall under its order. That too, the Court has said that structures have to be demolished only if other solutions like relocation and regularisation is not possible. Officers have to examine each case individually. Unfortunately in Mysuru, certain over-enthusiastic officers have targeted only Temples but have ignored the rest,” Simha charged.

All illegal religious structures, from all religions including the ones in major roads like DD URS road should be demolished.

  2. K Sridhar says:

This is the kind of MP who is encouraging the anti social elements to usurp public land in the middle of the roads to build temples. Further, if these are not demolished, it will further encourage others also to encroach on roads/govt properties. Anyway, these “instant temples” are being built only for monetary gains and not with any religious ferver. Further, politicians dont seem to have any regard for the SC orders and will do anything either for money or for votes.

In Mysore, Near by where we live more than 10 temples have come up in park and on road side, it all developed in last 10 years in front of our eyes, in childhood in same place we were playing cricket there. now it is all occupied by temples and money minting machines for some.
Every week some or the other functions and Pooja’s keep on going. such illegal religious places should be razed immediately without any consultation. There is couple of Mosque and even church which had come in this period but with proper compound for perimeter and not in any public park or road, It is built on MUDA site as per our knowledge , only temples come up in parks and roads where there were trees before, this is example of our area.

  5. Nikhil says:

so, 101 Ganapathi temple in Mysore which we all went to in 1960s was an illegal structure? No wonder lord Ganesha did not grant our wishes! He knew some day the government would not approve his residence!

  6. Sam says:

Sooner or later Hindu community will wake up, the day seems near. Lots of Hindu temples make very good revenues which government officials are looting or distributing to vote Bank reasons or looking secular. While Hindu priests are starving, temple money is distributed to other causes. Why temples should be run by governments if they cannot repair or improve especially if they are making money. They don’t dare to take over a church or a masjid. This the root cause of all the issues.

  7. Roopadarshi says:

This sorry state of Hindu deities anchored anywhere as temples for money scrounging purposes happens because gullible people are attracted to it. This is what happens in a third world country., where most citizens look to Gods anywhere to solve their problems. These temples are easily accessible to them unlike for example Goddess Chamundeshwari on the Hill who is allowed to give darshan any time to the exclusive rich and politicians in power. Look at the chief priest there, dressed for photo opportunity all the time, ready to serve the above men with power, brandishing at the same time his honorary “Dr ” title, and perhaps his gang there quietly pocket the money and other goodies by closely hovering around the famous deity there!
Do not blame these roadside temples and their creators, but blame the degenerate state of the Hindu religion, the pathetic state of Hindu temples of old and fame, which have become edifices that serve only the rich and powerful and which exclude poor worshippers given the opportunity.
    This is India of today,.

  8. Jalandhara says:

There has to be a permanent solution to this. Hindus needs to be educated , taught about the Bhakti Marga- faith based worship.. Hindu religion enables through idols the focus of mind on God, repenting on sins and praying for courage and solutions to problems. Home is as good a place as any temple even the famous ones.
Some one like me who was trained in my younger days on traditional mantras-based worship, Vedic and Sanskrit education, firmly believes in the simple Bhakti Marga instead. That was what great Saints of India preached and practiced. For this you do not need physical structure of any kind-roadside or otherwise,
Living In the West, in Europe, I appreciate the simplicity of Christian faith based on the Cross, and unlike Hindu temples of famous Gods in India, it is very easy to get into cathedrals like Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris ( now closed for renovation), and light a candle praying for some one. I used to do this as a devout Hindu, every year, when that Cathedral was open, and wondered, why do we , the Hindus, have i allowed impediments restrictions, complexities formalities, considering the fact God is omnipresent, merciful, and does not practice exclusivity among devotees. India should be proud oof stories that demonstrated this over centuries. That was of the essence of the ancient Hindu religion and worship/

The so called MUDA / MCC Master Plan (in making for a century???) should clearly mark location for place of worship and control illegal structures be it be a Hindu Temple, a Muslim Mosque, a Christian Church, or any other denomination’s place of worship
But then, how will the politicians and their chelas survive without hafta!
