MCC Ward 32 By-poll

Mysuru: Today being the last day for filing of nomination papers, three candidates, including an Independent, filed their papers this morning for the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Ward 32 by-poll scheduled on July 2.

SBM Manju of JD(S), K. Madesh of BJP and Lalana Dhanraj, a Congress rebel candidate, filed their nomination papers with MCC Zone-4 Assistant Commissioner V. Priyadarshini, who is the Returning Officer for the by-poll, at election branch of MCC on Sayyaji Rao Road.

JD(S) candidate was accompanied by Mayor M.J. Ravikumar, former Mayor R. Lingappa and JD(S) City President Harish Gowda and others at the time of filing the nominations. While City BJP President Dr. B.H. Manjunath, former MUDA Chairman L. Nagendra, former Corporator Sriram and Jayaprakash accompanied K. Madesh.

Earlier, SBM Manju offered special pujas at Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Temple in Vontikoppal before arriving in a procession to the MCC. He was accompanied by around 600 JD(S) workers who burst crackers and beat the drums throughout.

BJP candidate K. Madesh also offered special puja at Sri Chandramouleshwara Temple in V.V. Mohalla before filing his nominations. Both filed two sets of nomination papers to the Returning Officer.

Meanwhile, Lalana Dhanraj filed her nomination papers as Congress-rebel candidate.

Former Mayor B.K. Prakash, the official Congress candidate for the by-poll, was expected to file his nomination papers after  2 pm with 3 pm being the deadline. Another Independent candidate B.J. Mahabalaraj had filed his nomination papers on Saturday last (June 17).

The scrutiny of nomination papers will be taken up tomorrow (June 22) and the last date for withdrawal is June 24. Polling will be held on July 2 and the counting of vote on July 5 at Maharaja Sanskrit College on Sayyaji Rao Road.

The authorities have set up a total of 12 polling booths in three polling centres among which Nirmala Convent has six polling booths, Government PU College (Vontikoppal) has four polling booths and Government Girls Higher Primary Schools has two polling booths. While the polling booths in Nirmala Convent have been declared as sensitive, the other centres have been declared as hyper-sensitive.

There are a total of 10,201 total voters with 5,053 male voters and 5,148 female voters in the Ward.
