Mysore/Mysuru: Urban Development Minister launched the Facial Recognition-Based Attendance System for Pourakarmikas, the first in the State. The new system was launched with the Minister taking the attendance of a pourakarmika in a tab at an event held in Tagadur Ramachandra Park at Chamundipuram this noon.

Speaking after launching the new attendance system, Minister Byrathi said that the new system was a unique one and added that he would instruct officials of all civic bodies in the State to implement the same.

Pointing out that if officials were active that particular Corporation will see development, the Minister said that the implementation of the new attendance system was an example for it and lauded MCC Commissioner G. Lakshmikantha Reddy for implementing this unique system which was the first in the State.

Stating that Pourakarmikas should work with dedication, Byrathi instructed the officials to provide uniforms, gloves and gumboots to Pourakarmikas besides instructing officials to conduct regular health check up for them. “They (Pourakarmikas) protect the health of the people and it is our duty to protect their health,” the Minister said.

MCC Commissioner G. Lakshmikantha Reddy, who too spoke said that there are about 2,130 Pourakarmikas including 730 regular Pourakarmikas, who assemble at various points as early as 6 am. The software of the new attendance system is installed in tabs and MCC Officers deployed at each point will take the attendance through facial recognition. The entire attendance will be completed in just five minutes at all points, he said and added that the salaries will be based                             on the attendance. 

Pointing out that manual attendance (signing in attendance register) was causing problems and fingerprint impression was not being recognised in biometric system, the MCC Commissioner said that due to many problems in attendance faced earlier, the new facial recognition-based attendance has been implemented.
