Negative media reports have hurt politicians: Minister

June 26, 2017

Mysuru: Accusing the media of giving too much prominence to negative reports, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait has said that such reports have hurt the personal life and values of politicians.

He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Gundurayara Nenapinangala,’ a programme organised in memory of former Chief Minister late R. Gundu Rao by Parivarthanam Trust at Ideal Jawa Rotary Hall on JLB Road on Saturday.

Observing that the situation three decades ago was totally different from now, with the media then giving more prominence to valued articles and reports, Tanveer Sait said that with negative reports becoming the order of the day, the voice of politicians is losing significance.

Noting that earlier the words of great leaders such as Devaraj Urs, Bangarappa and R. Gundu Rao were considered as an order, the Minister said the situation was totally different now, with the statement of political leaders being taken very lightly.

Recalling the situation in which Gundu Rao as Chief Minister had to face a complex situation while evacuating unauthorised layouts, Sait said that Gundu Rao intervened to stall the demolition of unauthorised houses at 29 layouts including Gundu Rao Nagar in city, thus coming to the rescue of the shelterless.

From then on, successive Governments have failed to implement ‘Akrama-Sakrama’ scheme despite best efforts, he said adding that total commitment holds key for implementation of such schemes that are largely beneficial to the poor.

Achievers from various fields — K. Raghuram, D.T. Prakash, H.N. Sridhar Murthy, C. Narayanagowda, Mullur Guruprasad, Nagaprasad Iyer and Manu Venkataram — were honoured with ‘Gundu Rao Award’ on  the occasion.

  1. Sir,

My heart bleeds for these poor politicians! You get what you deserve, get over it!

First do good things to a good coverage. You guys always politicize things, either now or in the past and you dont do anything for charity. Clean your image with clean conciance and huge amount of honesty, the media will reflect who you guys are. Corruption to be taken lightly by media, if you mean? Corruption start with you guys and the poor are your tool, which you never want to lose so you keep them poor, else who will sell votes. You have henchmen and goons around you as supporters, who do grease deals, else nothing moves. Give us one instance where you do things for people free. Media is doing its job, else God knows what our politicians would have done being born free.
