Mysuru: As part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan programme, Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama and the BJP Yuva Morcha conducted separate cleanliness drives in city yesterday.
The 21st week of ‘Swachha Mysuru Swastha Jeevana’ programme which was launched by Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama for 40 weeks to create public awareness about cleanliness and environmental protection, was held yesterday in city.
The event was held in Devaraja Mohalla covering Seebaiah Road, Kothwal Ramaiah Street, Dodda Vokkalageri, Ane Sarot Road and areas around Amruteshwara Temple and Government Ayurveda Hospital.
President of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama in Mysuru Swami Atmajnanandaji, former MLC D. Madegowda, Mayor M.J. Ravikumar and former MUDA Chairman L. Nagendra inaugurated the awareness campaign.
Thorough cleaning of Chikkagadiyara (Dufferin Clock Tower) with water by enthusiastic local volunteers was done, besides volunteers visiting houses and urging residents not to throw their waste in public places and avoid using plastic bags. The volunteers also requested the residents to take care of their surroundings just like they take care of their houses.
Brochure on ‘Swachha Mysuru Swastha Jeevana’ was distributed to the residents of the locality on the occasion.
Nearly 200 volunteers, 20 MCC cleaning staff and 60 local residents participated in the cleaning and awareness campaign.
BJP Yuva Morcha
The BJP Yuva Morcha conducted the cleanliness programme at Alanahalli which was inaugurated by BJP District Vice-President S.C. Ashok.
He said that the whole country was working towards protection of environment through cleanliness drives in order to make PM Modi’s dream come true.
BJP Yuva Morcha District President L.R. Mahadevaswamy who also spoke called upon the youth to join hands in maintaining cleanliness in the city and also create awareness on the importance of cleanliness in their surroundings.
Alanahalli GP members Murthy, Mahadevaswamy and Puttalingu, Chamundeshwari constituency President Arun Kumar Gowda, Yuva Morcha President Uday Dalapathi, State Secretary Devaraj, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Convenor Nataraju and others were present.
