Funds awaited for Mysore Airport runway expansion and repairs of MMC&RI Hospitals
Mysore/Mysuru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has responded positively to the request made by Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha to allocate funds in the Budget — to be presented on Mar. 4 — for the expansion of the Mysore Airport runway and also to sanction funds for the repairs and restoration of K.R. Hospital, Cheluvamba Hospital and PKTB Hospital run by the Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI).
Meeting the CM in Bengaluru, Pratap Simha submitted a list of projects in Mysuru that desperately need funds. These include the renovation of hospitals that come under MMC&RI. The MP had written to the CM earlier highlighting the pathetic condition of the hospitals and how the century-old structures withstood the vagaries of weather till now.
A proposal to renovate buildings at a cost of Rs. 85.98 crore was pending before the State Government, he told the CM and requested Bommai to accord administrative approval for the proposal and release the necessary funds.
All the hospitals and the MMC&RI are housed in heritage buildings and there is an urgent need to restore them with structural repairs. MMC&RI is one of the oldest medical colleges in India and a lot of patients from Mysuru and neighbouring districts depend on these hospitals for treatment, the MP told the CM.
Secondly, the MP sought funds for expansion of the Mysore Airport’s existing runway that is stuck due to land acquisition issues. A total of 240 acres of land is required for expanding the airport by extending the existing runway to facilitate the operation of large-sized aircraft.
The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) had identified 116 acres that needs to be acquired immediately for the project but, the proposal was pending before the Finance Department. The MP urged the CM to accord financial approval for the proposal and take necessary steps for the release of funds required for land acquisition.
Pratap Simha told the CM that over Rs. 400 crore is needed to pay compensation to land owners who will lose land for the project and Rs. 1.5 crore has to be paid per acre through KIADB.
The existing Airport is spread over 507 acres and under the expansion project, the length of the runway will be increased to 2,750 metres and 45 metres width that allows jet aircraft such as Boeing 737 and Airbus A-320 to land.
Expansion of Mysuru airport good news? It will take jet liners, so that Malayalee gold smugglers and fake design goods merchants from the Gulf states and link this city to Gulf countries . It also means quick implementation of improved rail and road links to Kerala. Expect massive influx of Malayalees to Mysuru, changing the nature of the city. Well done Simha!
In the history of Mysore, first time there is an MP who is working so hard and taken job seriously, people are finding 1000 reasons to stop him from doing any work. Gold smugglers from Kerala even if they arrive, its not free run. There is airport security. Moreover this airport is going to help more kannadigas than malyalis and help city grow. You may have job and your children might go to Bangalore to get job, but not everyone wants to work in some other city. If I get a job on mysore, i prefer to work here. People like you will make this city living on alms.
I completly agree.. instead of going for improving to other state migration, Mr.Prathap simha cant see old heritage buildings like Land sown building which hasn’t moved for consttruction for long time and in many places in Mysore city governemnt service people like ASI are acquiring government pproperties can;t he open these things every time he looks at releasing funds from govt not for people rather to exploit funds and spend on needless things for common people. During yediurappa time there was a under pass made in sayaji rao road between bata showroom and exhibition road which is now completely closed what is the use for common people simply releasing funds from govt??

You are hallucinating thinking that there is airport security , and Gold smugglers will be caught etc.. etc.. There is airport security in the existing Kerala airports, and still the gold smugglers are thriving,. How? This is India, and anyone can be bought with money and gold-that simple.
You must be really sleeping like Kumbakarna,until now, and have not noticed that the centre has taken initiative with the Kerala government to establish better rail and road links from Kerala to Mysuru, and there has been already , the beginnings of Malayalees arriving in Mysuru, who are further inflating the property prices.
Just look around, how many of you, Kannadigas are there in Mysuru , and how many non-Kannadigas are around, particularly Tamils , Andhras and Malayalees. You will be very surprised. Where is Wayanad? It is just 130 KM from Mysuru along the NH, taking less than 3 hours by car. This airport will be a boon for Wayanad, and hence Kerala.
Grow up, and take notice of what is happening to your city. Within a few years, it will be smugglers’ paradise .
