Russia-Ukraine war: India must safeguard its interests

Author Major General (Retd.) Jagatbir Singh opines India should take a cautious stance

Mysuru: “India must consider its interests while judging Russia-Ukraine war. Russia has always stood by India in the international arena and it has helped India in times of crisis. Russia has even supported India on the Kashmir border dispute, Article 370. Russia has always given India arms,” opined Major General (Retd.) Jagatbir Singh.

He was speaking at a special online interaction — Russia-Ukraine War: How will it affect India — organised by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti. Jagatbir Singh is an author and Distinguished Fellow at the United Service Institution of India. Commissioned in 1981 into the 18 Cavalry, he has held various important command and staff appointments including command of an Armoured Division.

Continuing, Jagatbir Singh said that while Russia has always helped India, Ukraine, on the other hand, has always taken a stand against our country. Despite the pressure on India to “take the side of Ukraine” in the face of the on-going onslaught on Ukraine, this cannot be done directly. Similarly, thousands of Indian students are stranded in Ukraine.

“As it is important to save them, India should take a cautious stance on the Russia-Ukraine war and take further steps in the interest of India,” he said.

“As far as India is concerned we are now a power that matters with interests both with the US, EU and Russia. With the US, trade is at its highest and the US investment in India is also the highest, in addition is the large, influential and wealthy diaspora as well as a large number of students and growing military ties. We must safeguard our interests,” he reasoned.

Participating in the discussion, Major General (Retd.) V.K. Singh said, “Russian President Vladimir Putin had warned of a nuclear attack in response to tough economic sanctions and trade boycotts imposed on Russia by NATO members so that the enemy nations do not come together to attack Russia — just like Pakistan threatens India to use nuclear weapons, if India invades Pakistan and goes to war. Russia has done just that.”

Colonel (Retd.) Rajendra Shukla said, “The Russia-Ukraine war would have a huge economic impact on Russia due to the cost of munitions and subsequent sanctions imposed on it by Western countries. Russia will suffer huge losses globally.”

Due to economic sanctions on Russia, India will not have any problem in getting S-400 anti-aircraft and anti-missile technology and other munitions from Russia, he added.

“Perhaps the war may delay it a little. Only Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made India’s position in the world much better than before. Modi is playing a balanced role in the war. Russia and India have a traditional friendship. India should also keep in mind that Russia has helped India in difficult times,” he said.

Muthy .. looks like USA and NATO made Ukraine vulnerable. Think what would happen to India if we did not have nukes and signed NPT and China attacked us.
At least Ukraine is confident that and trust their citizens that they can give guns to them. On the contrary we have a large population of thankless Anti India asshiole citizens who just Google and ranting lies against our Army, Government and want to destroy India inside out

  2. Jhunjhunwalla says:

    Hello Sam
You say that crap, but when called to fight against Chinese, will you go and fight? You are just a corrupt and bad mouth Indian living in that corrupt cesspit.
Your PM Modi is incapable of lifting Indian students from Ukraine, who went there to study, having denied university courses filled up by reservations and not merit. They are hiding there, thousands of them , fearing death. That is your country.
Your Indian nukes will be outnumbered by Pakistani nukes and Chinese nukes. The Rafale jets India bought from Russia are 15 year old technology, no match for advanced stealth fighters China has. China has tested a very powerful hypersonic missile recently-only US and Russia have this capability. India will=l be wiped out with one strike of this hypersonic missile by China.
While blaming Nehru for losing Indian territories to China, the bearded and dimwit PM of yours courted XiJinPing , visiting him 20 times, and the latest wearing Madrasi dress in Mahabalipuram and inviting XiJinPing for talks there. XiJinping’s replied with more territories grab in the recent skirmish, 2 years ago, but the BJP simply censored the news. We in the West knew then that India lost more territories to China, and was pushed back.
Bearded dimwit Modi, who has falsified his educational qualifications tried US friendship under Trump, which came to nothing, and now by siding with Russia, he has lost the entire West. They do not want him now. You will see that India will be isolated.
What does siding with Putin means for India?
    1. Putin is very friendly with Imran Khan, who imported Russian wheat and has signed a huge agreement of laying piped gas infrastructure from Russia to Pakistan
    2. Putin will force Modi to accept the loss of territory to China, as China and Russia are allies.
    3. Western countries: US, UK and France veto ,whenever there is a talk of India’s application to permanent membership of the UN security council.
    5. Unlike India IT techies, the coolies, Ukraine has a massive core of excellent IT and science trained personnel who have left Ukraine and are heading to Western countries. Many of them will go US, thus cutting out Indian students and Indian IT techies to US. Ukraine IT engineers are given work visas, residencies and work unlike Indian IT coolies, and massive number of Ukraine students will be enrolling in US and European universities on scholarships, denying chance for Indians. Australia and NZ are inviting them too, thus cutting chances for Indian students and Indian techies there. India lost the West.
NATO is a powerful military alliance, hence the attraction of Ukraine. If it had already become a member, NATO countries led by US, would have helped Ukraine. Think of NATO coming to help India, if it is a NATO country , when China attacked. India is just a loner and Putin will leave it as such.
Do not worry about the nukes. Worry about oxygen supply, which Modi could not provide during pandemic thousands died as a result, ,when you catch Covid, and spend your life savings in private clinics in Mysuru! Your PM Modi as usual will hide in an igloo growing beard! Worry also about the stray dogs wandering in Mysuru in large numbers.
China in the end will get your country. Putin will not come to help.

    @Jhunjhun
Well, said, This @Sam is another deluded Indian, with no brains. When His PM Modi cannot rescue nearly 10,000 students who are still hiding in Ukraine ,appealing to Western countries to come and help them, what chance India has against China, arguably a military and economic superpower.
You mentioned China’s hypersonic missile, a very fearsome missile and yes, only Russia and US have them. China will flatten India.
This @Sam cannot string words together well enough to make sense! Very ill-educated typical Indian. PM Modi has no friendsleft in the world, after he bungled Ukraine issue believing Putin. China, Xijinping is laughing at him!!
Well as for Mysore, they should be worried about Massive numbers of Keralites descending there, when the Mysore airport gets expanded. These Keralites are the criminal merchants and smugglers in the Gulf states. We kicked their operations out of Mumbai, and they will now set them up in Mysore., when this city is linked by air to Gulf Countries, not to the West as it is already taken care of by Kempegowda airport.

These were the crap army officers who ran away, when China attacked India and gave away Indian territories.
US investments will dry up-not much as though it looks big in Indian Rupees. Modi has no whereto go, but to Russia. Putin will force India, noting that India has lost all friends in the world, to accept China as a friend. China is laughing aloud.
I agree with the above poster that Ukraine technologists more than 5 million of them will settle in US and Europe denying opportunities for Indians. India is just a third world country deploying IT coolies to do the cheap outsourcing work.
What kind of power is India, If India cannot evacuate nearly 10,000 of their students from Ukraine, who are begging Western countries to help them, as most of them are starving living on church delivered food there, this so called army officer, who is comfortably living in India, by saying what he is saying sounds so stupid and clueless. What a fool, who does not understand geopolitics.
You will next see US VP Kamala Harris who is driving the US points of iew giving problems to Modi and his foreign minister on every occasion. She considers herself as Africa-American, where as this idiot Modi wants her to be Indian-American. That says it all.
The geopolitics has changed , and India will realise the pains.

  5. Sam says:

@Jhunjhunwalla Your wishful thinking clearly indicates that you are a bastard born to a Paki whore and so your hatred against India is very clearly visible! Get a life! You called me without any evidence a just a corrupt and bad mouth Indian living in that corrupt cesspit, which I am not. So I am returning the favor and I sure the truth may have touched a raw nerve. Go confirm with your mother!!

    Hey Sam
With that post, you prove yourself to be a dim witted, low life with a foul mouth and no education. You have the language of a sewer rat.

    Dear Vikram the SOM editor
This is a respected family newspaper. Would you allow the kind of language that @Sam uses in his post?
